Hi all, any help would be great. How to strip trim without damaging anything. What size or type of speaker have members replace them with, I wish to keep the trim original, without any molestion. Regards

Remove tweeter sail if it has one (remove tweeter from its mount also, if it has tweeters)
Remove screws at defrost inlet, pull-to handle, door handle cup.
Remove door handle cup by pulling door handle open slightly, and slide cup out
Pull trim from door body (door trim clips are around the perimeter of door)
Slide door trim upwards and off door
Unclip door puddle light wiring, if it has one.

Assembly in reverse order.

6.5" speakers replace the stock ones.

If you are after better quality sound and still have the original head unit though, you will improve the sound much more by replacing the head unit with something modern, than replacing speakers. Modern units have a much more sophisticated control over equaliser settings, so you can experiment with boosting or cutting different frequencies and compensate for the shortcomings of the speakers and car interior.

Thanks for the info guys the map for door is going to make the task simpler for me and safer for the car. The vrx has a clarion head unit and 6 stack in the boot all running to stock speakers. Don't want to have a system that set off dogs at 15km just nice sound if I'm not listening to the exhaust note. Regards

Is that the original sound system though?
Audio in car technology has come a long way since the TJ had that Clarion put in it in the factory, even the most basic sub $100 current single DIN with USB input will sound better and be easier to use.

Anyhow, replace the speakers first, if you find the sound quality still poor, think about a more modern head unit.

Probably best to pull a speaker out first, so you can check depth into the door and size of magnet when you go shopping. Not just the diameter that is important, speakers have changed in shape a bit over the years.

Hi mad max, going through the 100s of receipts from the former owner the head unit was fitting in 2/6/2013 and has USB/phone and a crazy amount of other buttons on the bugger. Still working my way through the manual for it.

Sounds like a good unit then! Enjoy!
USB is great for plugging in a 8 GB stick with all your songs on it, who needs CDs and a CD stacker when you have a USB port? lol
