Nice, Is it hard to split the lense? what black did you use?
Before and after pic is the same picture. Unless it's not supposed to be a before and after.. just the same image posted twice :D

Looks good! Does the black being gloss help darken the lens? I wonder how this would turn out on a TJ Lens...
What kind of glue did you use to hold it back together?

Why no before shot? haha
What kind of primer did you use and what kind of black?
Are you 100% happy with the outcome?
I love how its a fairl legal way of altering the lens colour and not compromising on safety.
I was behind a guy in a GTI the other night that had maybe 5% of the brake light coming through the black paint. A car plowed up your back end is not a cool look at all!

What kind of primer did you use and what kind of black? SuperCheap Export paint
Are you 100% happy with the outcome? yep...looks so much better.

lol...no before shot because i completely forgot to take one...Veradas are plenty on the ground ,so i will just snap one in a car park somewhere one day.
Um,just used cheap export paint from SuperCheap...the lens are sealed ,no heat ,etc ,so it does thew job.
Someone asked what glue do you use to reseal them ?
none ,you just reheat the existing gue and put it back together again.
Some "AFTER " shots..lol..although, Yellow VRX has "chrome verada " ones painted black ,where as the silver ones are US Diamante VRX..."
no different...ha

Std TJ vs Blacked out ,pink lines removed and chrome painted black Verada ones

Thats a good reason not to post one! I posted one up above that gives people a rough idea anyway.
I pulled mine apart a while back and dont remember it being a reusable kind of glue. Maybe Im mistaken or maybe the Diamante uses a different kind of glue...
It is an awesome aesthetics mod! I love it... I will do my TJ lenses one day and will post it up.
Thanks for the write up!

Hmm, I love the look of this mod, from the sounds of it the glue is similar to what is used on parra headlights....heat up to remove, heat up to reseal...
Is that just a generic primer you used?, or something a little more?
Might just do this to my GTV while its off the road....

Any tips on getting the lenses off on these?
Have had them in the oven at around 80 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes....but the lenses refuse to budge in the slightest
Can anyone whos done it offer some tips?
Cheers
EDIT: have been battling away.....I have managed to slightly open the bottom inside corner and up the inside, along where the little tabs are....but thats it....it just bows out with pressure then returns to its current state
Had no trouble when I opened up the headlights

I put the lens face down (on a cloth not to scratch it) and filled it with water from the kettle. It was a while ago, but I recall having to fill it with a second lot as the lower temp of the whole lens and casing robs the water of its heat.

Yeah I got it
Oven temps were put up to 120, once I found out they come apart a bit different to the headlights, it became so much easier!

how long did you have them in the oven for? How do they come apart?

Had them in the oven for about 10 minuts, had to put them back in a few times for another 5 minutes a pop, as the adhesive cools down before you get them open
They need to be prized open evenly all round, you cant lift one edge and peel them open....takes quite a bit of patience as the amount of pressure needed to open them evenly, makes you cautious about using more pressure for fear of cracking
Other tips are... DONT leave them in the oven for too long or too hot
Be careful not to put too much force against the lense while its hot due to possible warping of the lens
There are a couple little tabs alond the bottom, and 3 up the inside, that you need to push in, not too hard though, this is the best place to start, bottom and inside edge, to be able to lift the lens, on the outside edge there are another 3 tabs, they are hidden, buy you end up releasing them as you are trying to prise up the lense
All it takes is patience and some balls....and a bit of spare cash in case you break one!
Of course....DO AT YOUR OWN RISK......
