View Full Version : Roof lining sagging: interim step = cut away?

Reading past posts about sagging interior roof lining, I gather that a professional replacement is the recommended way to go?

As a short term fix for the lining scraping the top of my head, would it be OK to cut away the loose fabric?

I ask specifically because I'll shortly be driving interstate, and a long trip with sagging lining isn't ideal.

Or is it better to keep the original lining intact for repair purposes?

Cheap and nasty fix - buy a can of spray adhesive - cover the interior with a drop cloth and spray the lining until it is damp ish - then use a plastic scraper to push it up and spread evenly - the glue will dry fairly fast and it wont fall down as the glue holds the shape and sticks it to the roof liner - because it is clear it even looks pretty good when finished - if the sag is really big - do it bit by bit working in from the edge.

I bought a dead TJ for parts, The roof lining was held up by thumb tacks.... Works well.

If you cut away the offending fabric you will have old foam/glue falling off the headlining.

Thumb tacks is a temp fix.

This is a easy fix for around $100 you can do it yourself, theres videos on youtube to show you how its done when you have the time to do it.

I used thumb tacks but they kept on falling of and I was sitting on them. Used staples and they work well.

Thanks guys. Staples sound like a workable temporary fix until I have time to glue it back up.

Hi

I recently fixed my sagging roof liner.

Bought glue that was heat resistent to with stand the heat in car sandded back liner nad washed the material to get off residual glue. It came up really well glue did come through in one part.
Total cost was $45 and that was 2 cans of glue

Plenty of staples have kept the roof lining in place through the drive from Sydney to Melbourne and for over 4 months of local driving since then. Not one has dropped out. I never notice them because the roof lining is all but invisible from the front seat.

. $250, darwin price.

sounds OK to me, the Wagon needs more material and labour, and frankly remove and refit + recover time would be a low hourly rate.

Post some pics of before and after - my TJ wagon is needing the same.
