I am looking at replacing my rear coils soon as the car sits with a full tank at 355mm from centre of wheel to wheel arch.

The question I have is are the springs lowered to start with and what height should they be? I am looking at Dobinsons springs though their catalogue do not mention AWD, so I assume maybe the VRX springs?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

No manufacturer lists AWD specific springs so you have to select from the FWD offerings.

I put Lovell's standard height heavy duty springs in my TJ AWD and the rear ended up at 375mm from wheel centre to top of the arch, which was the same as the original passenger side spring at the time (the driver's side had sagged 10mm compared to that). With a full boot (70-100kg) it drops to about 355mm... I did the front at the same time and that came in at 405mm (original spring was 410mm). Result was pretty much exactly what I wanted thankfully.

I could not find a formal factory eyebrow height specification for the AWDs though it seemed to be intended that they be the same as the FWDs with 16" wheels which I understood to nominally be 418mm front and 385mm rear for the J series...

Eye brow height does not depend on wheel/tyre size. It is the distance from the centre of the wheel to the bottom of the wheel arch. I have previously listed the eye brow heights of my KW GTVi AWD.

Thanks guys for the replies. I prefer it to sit a little lower than stock and a little higher in the rear than 355mm. Maybe vr springs? I think the springs are a little soft as I get that roll around corners, prefer to sit flat around corners if I can.

I have noticed, when compared to my dad's TJ FWD was the my springs were noticeably thicker. If you have a base model AWD, you may be better off sourcing a set of series TL/TW/KL/KW VR/VRX/GTVi AWD springs.

I had the dobinson vr-x spec springs in rear (to raise the rear as the low's sit quite low in an AWD because of extra weight) and they were much too soft. The back end was floating all over the place.

Fixed by going back to dobinson lows in rear, with a spacer made up to raise rear ride height.

Definately stick with AWD spec OEM springs.
