View Full Version : Headlight Globe Question.

The low beam of the headlamps on my TP sedan is so poor that it is suicidal to drive at night. The lights and reflectors are clean and I've tried adjusting them but that didn't help much. There is just not enough light. I haven't checked what bulbs are currently fitted but the previous two TPs were almost as bad, so I'm looking for brighter aftermarket bulbs.

I have no interest in pretty blue headlamps, HID or LED conversions or anything of that nature. High beam is adequate, so at this stage I am only considering the outer pair of headlights which take H4, 60/55W bulbs with P43t base.

The Narva globe application guide at http://www.narva.com.au/products/globeChart shows 48881 as their suggested part number for Magna TP but when I go to their H4 globe chart to choose a series: http://www.narva.com.au/products/browse/h4 , that part number is only listed in the table of stock H4 globes. It is shown as "plus 30" but that's now their standard spec. There is no variation of 48881 listed in the table of performance versions further down the page.

This is where I need your help. Rather than the stock 48881, could I use any of the performance versions as long as it is H4, 12volt, 60/55W with a P43t base type? If so, I will order a pair of plus 100's and maybe a spare pair of plus 50 longer life.

Thanks, Magna Buff. I just ordered the plus 50 long life's to try out as they're only $30. If they fit ok and are significantly better than what I have, I will upgrade further to the plus 100's and consider upgrading the inner (high beam only) lights as well.

I almost did run over a wombat with the TP wagon somewhere up near Inverell. I went back to talk to him and shoo him off the road but he showed me his teeth, so I just waited for him to amble off.

To be safe with the current lights, I'd have to drive at 30-40 kph and then people would run up the back of me. I will check the relays and could swap from the wagon but its lights were not much better.

Did I mention we had a huge hailstorm here a few weeks back. The current EFI sedan was under the makeshift carport and undamaged but the wagon and carby sedan received significant hail damage. They were basket cases anyway - definitely not worth keeping now.

Did I mention we had a huge hailstorm here a few weeks back.

That's the one that bypassed us here in Adelaide a while back, I think.
I had the cars all sorted, the newest one under the carport, the ones that could be repaired or written off out in the open. Old quilts over the roof and screens. What else can you do?
That storm missed us and headed out your way, obviously. Game of (bad) luck, really.
