Hey everyone,
So I'm thinking of maybe doing a conversion from the standard sx tail lights to the vrx tail lights along with adding the vrx lip spoiler with the led brake light so it all fits in nicely. Thing is has anyone done this conversion before and if you have do you remember the cost at all, Because just looking around on ebay it seems Taillights would be $400+ for the set but I cant find the spoiler and all seem to include the boot which is not what I'm after does anyone know the price at all the lip spoiler or part number even I cant ring the local dealer because my VIN doesn't have the spoiler under it as it's the SX model.
Also I remember reading way back on this forum (cant seem to find it now) about someone switching around the reverse bulb into the indicator bulb slot of the VRX tail light so that the indicator was alot more visible is this possible at all?
Hope someone can help me out :)

Hi, sorry I can't recall the prices now - but I too was going to go that conversion many years ago when my 380 was new. There were a few threads on it, but have probably been archived now or whatever happens to old threads. One or two people did do it. I recall it would be been around a thousand bucks for all parts, and I didn't think it was worthwhile. I do remember reading one guy with a white 380 replaced only the tail lights (cheaper, but lacking the 'gap joining' spoiler). I also recall someone with a black 380 relocated (or "fixed") the bulbs so that indicators were no longer on the sides.

Got mine done a couple of months ago, the old-fashioned way (paid MitsFix to do it!)

I know of a guy who at least had a VR-X bootlid and lip spoiler available in Ipswich. I think he wanted $150 for it, but that was a while ago. I don't know what colour it is or what condition it is in though.

Thanks for the help, I'm still right on the edge on whether not I want to get it or not I know it's purely cosmetic but I guess It's like people who change their rims on their cars realistically it's just for looks. So we will see :).

I might be interested if he still had it, colours not an issue I have storm grey but I can respray it if needed.

Just an update got the tail lights and lip spoiler today for a steal installed the tail lights with no dramas will switch the pins out in the future but for now she looks great. Will have to get the lip spoiler painted before install though as it's a different colour completely. Will update with pics in the future :)

Those Ralliart tails look amazing quite jealous and the bulb placement is great also. Are you running an led bulb in the reverse light spot?

yes,well spotted.
Also ,those side red strips actually light up as parkers.
So as well as the one in the brake/parker,there is another one on the side.

Really they sound way better that extra light strip on the side would look great day/night also :). How do you find the light output with the led reverse globes? I'm still in the process of swapping the bulbs around on the vrx ones as you may know the indicator isn't the most visible. I just received those amber globes from the UK to fit into the reverse light area aswell, but before I go ahead fitting them in still trying to decide whether to go with leds in the reverse light area maybe even a cree led of some sort.

I've been looking at doing the same - for years. But managed to find a guy down in Melbourne (I'm in Brisbane) who was selling both lights and spoiler really cheap so just went for it thinking if it costs too much to have the spoiler resprayed and fitted I'll just sell the parts.
I figured the taillights are easy but I realised there's about half a dozen holes that will have to be drilled into the boot for spoiler fitment which was more than what I was expecting.
I'll be doing some ringing around for quotes on spray and fitment so I'll post what I find.
I was originally going to order from Mitsfix and I believe they said $200 for respray - if that helps you get an idea.

I've actually recently completed the conversion, and its pretty straight forward. I bought a white spoiler so I just resprayed it myself cost maybe $60 for all the paint and clear coat. All I did was watch a few youtube videos which covered spraying car plastics and it came up fine in the end. Been using it over a month without any issues.
With the fitment, I had help from a friend its not that hard to do. Just takes time and you will have lots of fun matching the screw holes that you've drilled with the spoiler. I had to resize a few just so it would sit flush. With mine I removed the plastics clips on the rear side of the spoiler as one was damaged and it saved me drilling and extra 2 holes. I would like to add when the spoiler was fitted I used a silicon sealant in-between the spoiler and boot this was to prevent water leaking into the boot from the new holes that had been made into the boot. Has been going great ever since. You will also need to rewire the led tail light by cutting the old centre boot light wiring. It's just two wires takes like 5 mins disconnect your battery first thought.
All in all if you're the DIY type of guy you will save alot of money. You could easily get it done in a weekend maybe one day dedicated for spraying it and the other for fitting maybe take about an hour or 2 tops. Otherwise fitting maybe might cost $200-300 and respray $200 so maybe $500 all up. It cost me $60 for paint, clear coat, and sand paper and $10 for the silicone tube all up $70 with out the part costs and I cant recall exactly but roughly 5-7hrs of my time. So just in-case you were wondering :).

That's awesome  And glad it worked well for you.
I wouldn't have considered painting it myself but you have inspired me. And I do have some car savy friends so should be good.
I'm curious how did you measure where to drill the holes? I'd have thought it would be tricky as the boot's curved and all that. I had the thought of 'painting' the screws with say whiteboard marker and gently pressing the spoiler onto the boot.
Also did you treat the exposed metal from you drilling?
