I just happen to need an extra car jack and went to fetch the one out of the magna TP.
Only to find the wheel well had a pool of water in it and the spare tyre, jack and tools were all rusting away. Bummer!

There were 2 rubber bung plugs that effectively sealed the drain holes, I took them out and punctured them with a hole punch so that there is some drainage happening.
Going to do that to all my cars now!

Never even saw a wet patch on the carpet, so maybe the side window seals are leaking and its trickling down the side panels.

Looking for info on how to get these side windows out and resealing them with black polyurethane sealer.

Okay its in the wrong section (was late and I am sleepy!) - hopefully an admin will shift it down a gear.

the carpet dries quickly ..its very pourous as it ages

two places

the boot rubber seal closest to the hinges or halfway along the boot

also
water comes down the side panels at the rear off the roof
the panels are removable
open the back door and you will see three screws for that panel above the door closure

behind that are drain holes..they may be clogged or rusted already the water diverts into the boot

if left the whole section rusts out to the internal section of the wheel arch in the boot

Doors

under the bottom of each door hidden by the door seals are drain holes . look like .flat screwdriver slots
make sure they are clear

Buffy,

I've done it again - ie being laxidasical about providing adequate info (to be fair it was really late and I was very sleepy).

Now my magna TP is a station wagon (sorry!).

One leak appears to be coming from inside the top of the back door trim.

More serious is that the water gets inside the cavity wall, behind the trims under the rear windows.
Here it very neatly runs out from underneath the trim and travels under the masonite flooring into the well.

It is baffling me:
I can hose the seals on the rear windows and it doesn't leak.
Run water over the top of the car and into the gutters and then it leaks (quite bad).

Maybe I found one likely entry point best explained with a picture.

The black outside trim is retained by 3 screws and 3 plastic pins that fix themselves into 6mm holes in the car body.
Around each of these platic pins is a bit of a foam ring that provides some sort of a seal.
These seals are seen on the bottom 2 holes, but the top one just fell off (bottom pin was broken and still in the hole!).

Looking at the water flow from the gutter, it cascades nicely over that top hole (and into it!).
Even with that hole sealed up there is still water getting in (???).

What I really need to do is to remove the trim under these rear fixed windows (trim is in 2 sections - upper and lower).
Tried, but I just don't know how they are retained.
I do know it doesn't budge even with various screws removed.

the rear windows trims
only remove the top one if you really have to it is plastic .If my memory is ok
bottom one - has one screw as you see...

the rest of the trim is held with white plastic clips spaced out ...
try and slide it to the back of the car

rectangle shape cant see one in this web site

http://www.ozautomoulds.com.au/c/36/clips-fasteners

if you lever off with a thin screwdriver you might be ok if not
bend the chrome strip then black silastic and screw the strip back on

clips used are like the door outer strips and windsceen trims

I have never been able to remove the rear glass pictured there on all my wagons

if it was the door seal ... I dont think you can get them

black sillastic the pins in and any loose screws as you ressemble

if no better and still leaks you shouldnt leave a bung out ....the fumes can come in

thank you for the pics well done
the verada is a sweet looking ride

How did you know I removed the bungs in the wheel well?
I was only thinking of some drainage but didn't realise that fumes might come in through these holes.
Thanks for pointing that out.
I'll hedge my bets and place some foam in the drainage cavity. Hopefully the water can still seep out but fumes won't come in.

thats what i did :tired:

gaffer taped a bit of foam across one hole

not too much foam it may rust the rim of the spare

Also noticed that without the bungs in place there is quite a bit of road noise coming through these drain holes.

I punched 4mm holes in the rubber bungs and put them back.
That stopped the noise but it still wouldn't drain.

Appears the bottom of these bungs are sitting on the metal under the hole.
The fix is to glue a rubber washer to the bottom of the bung to raise it up a bit.

It drains slowly, but enough to stop any cumulative water pooling in the wheel well.

Now if only I could find those leaks!

I bought some high density self adhesive foam strip (used for roofing sheets!) to make new seals.

On the left is the old seal for the air vent and in the middle we have the new version as cut from the foam strip.

Seals fits nicely on the vent.
Lastly some new seals and strips behind the trim.

Hopefully this will have eliminated some of the dribbles.

Been raining a fair bit in Canberra over the last couple of days.
So far no water has found its way into the car, here's hoping it stays that way.

Had water ingress in my TP wagon as well and was the top most hole the plastic trim slides into. Removed the plastic pins polyurethane over the holes and put double sided trim tape on the leading edge of trim and no more problems. 3 screws hold the trim in place quite well without tape anyway i found. Cheers Vee

Top most hole is definitely a water leak waiting to happen.
Creating a new seal around it did the trick for me (for now!).

A little bit of water still gets in through the door seal on top near the hinges, but it has to rain hard for that.
All in all, just glad it wasn't caused by leaking window seals.
