Hello everyone!
I'm 18 and I only just got my first car, a 93' Magna TR. Not only am I new to the world of Magna's, but also just cars in general, so I'm not quite sure what I should do to it.
I really want to do it up and make it all nice. What sort of upgrades/modifications (Looks and performance) can i do? What do you guys recommend?
I'm keen on adding a spoiler, different rims and some new speakers (all i've come up with so far). Any recommendations on these as well? :)
Thankyou in advance! I'm really enjoying my Magna so far, so i can't wait to see it done up.

originals that nice .. are hard to find ...especially in QLD
km wont matter too much these go way over the 200,000 without too many problems
take off the cast iron manifold they crack .. go to extractors.. an off the shelf item approx $150
may have to find a used spoiler these days
if the motor starts to burn oil ..replace the valve stem guides ..can be done with the head on
you can lower with a king springs kit
iriduim plugs.
timing chain on these..change chain guides and cogs every 100,000 k
dont run it on ethanol
mags are a good idea
use injector clean
you can upgrade to a twin pot front caliper set ..just bolts on
with the auto - service once a year -mitsubishi auto oil
overdrive only on above 70 km/hr highway economy if it has the switch..
if not you will burn out the od clutch
power and over drive off below 70 km in trafic is best

Any standard single DIN unit aftermarket CD player will fit in the radio slot if you're that way inclined.
Door panels already have the speaker cutouts stamped into the metal work, so you can retrofit some door speakers if you wish up to 6.5" diameter. Watch out for depth behind the speaker though, as the window glass needs clearance behind to wind down into the door cavity. Can be mounted direct to the existing door lining panels, although looks a bit cheap. Neater option is to go to the wrecker's and ask for the front door cards from the KR or KS Verada which have the speaker pods/map carriers built in. Stock front dash speakers are rubbish, but your options for installing replacements are limited due to the small size of the mounting locations. I have Alpine Type R 6.5" in the doors with the Verada door cards and the tweeters mounted in the dash where the stock dash speakers used to sit, and it sounds pretty nice. I had to chose the Type Rs because of their shallow mounting depth though.
Obvious/cheap ideas - car seat covers, steering wheel cover, keep the polish and paintwork maintenance reigime up as most cars of this vintage are starting to look a bit pasty.
Other ideas - parabolic clear lens headlights plus the orange tinted front indicators from the KS/KR Verada give the car a bit of a BMW vibe. Front radiator grille from the Verada is a bit classier than the stock grille if you can find one that is the same colour as your car or don't mind getting the grille resprayed to match.
More expensive/more work/harder to find - front bumper from NZ Diamante with fog lamps, electric leather seats from Verada, power windows from Verada or Magna SE, interior woodgrain trim panels from Verada.
Engine - probably not much you can do other than regular care and maintenance. The 4cyl was very much a mature design by this point in Mitsubishi's history, so I'd like to think that their engineers had squeezed as much reliable power and efficiency from this power plant by the time they plunked it into the TR. Other more mechanically experienced people than me may have other ideas.

@magna buff, Yeah its actually in great condition! Snagged it for $800 from a girl who had it as her first car as well. The interior is immaculate (besides the broken vent faces), the paint is almost perfect, only a small ding in the corner of the rear bumper. Mechanically, its great. Only thing I had to fix was a few little holes in the exhaust (closer to the front). Only done 146,XXX, which is alright.
That's some great advice, thank you heaps man, I really appreciate it!
@ac1176, Yeah I've got a nice little Sony head unit in there :)
as for the speakers, the front ones are definitely on their way out. I will do that and put some good ones in the doors, and tweeters in the front, good idea. Also I'm very keen to get an actual amp and sub in the boot, love to have some decent sound while I'm driving (or just to show off :P ).
All those other ideas are great and you've given me heaps to think about, so thank you so much!
I'll keep this thread updated as I go along with this :)

Nice looking TR! Additional to the above advice would be to check the condition of all the cooling system hoses, these are prone to splitting under pressure when older and cause overheating unless you're vigilant and monitor the temperature gauge well. (It should never pass half way).
I still have a TR I enjoy driving from time to time, it's getting a little tired now but it still is a good car to run to work and back.
