I'm not sure if any of you other TL drivers had had this isse, but my handbrake is continually breaking and I have no idea what's causing it!!

My mechanic has repaired it 4 times now in the 3 years I've had this car and it's driving me nuts. :kb:

I don't do anything stupid with it, I use it the way it's supposed to, but it never seems to last more than about 5-6 months. Last night the car was sitting on a downhill incline and the handbrake gave way, the entire car jerked forward into the loving arms of the park gear, and scared the crap out of me hearing a bang and seeing my car shaking from my lounge window haha.

Last service had a rubber boot assembly replaced, and the one before that had an entirely new handbrake assembly fitted.

Any ideas??

Seriously? Like, wtf! I dont expect the handbrake cable to break, ever. Somethings not right?
If anyone else has experienced this please tell.
Anyone could jump out of their car for a moment to do something, leaving it in neutral or drive with only the handbrake applied - should be in park too, but we're only human! Could be disastrous under the wrong conditions.

This is certainly strange, out of all on this forum I see more Magna's than most here do, or most combined do and although I have seen the odd cable break has been very rare, to have 3 in 4 years is certainly something strange

Are you saying the cable is breaking? This doesn't sound right to me. It sounds to me like its disengaging.
Do you pull the handbrake tight when you park?

Could it be installation error? It seems strange for handbrake components to fail so often on the one car..

I'm not sure if it's breaking or disengaging (I'm not that knowledgable with mechanical components) but it's definitely not working anymore.

I tested it by putting it in neutral and applying the handbrake, and the car started rolling backwards (it was on a very slight incline, so the handbrake isn't even partially engaging from what I can tell).

I pull the handbrake up till it reaches a firm point in its cycle, didn't think that would make any impact would it?

Well when you have to cable "replaced" are you paying for a new cable or is it just labour? You can't or shouldn't "repair" and handbrake cable, it should be replaced. Unless it is just disengaging each time, but that is still bizarre.

On the invoice from my mechanic, it usually reads something along the lines of:

"Replaced handbrake assembly"

and then there's the associated costs involved with the item plus labor

Something's not right.

I think it's time you ditched said mechanic and went to see Mitsfix.

Yeah, I'm thinking likewise. We be booking it in soon when I can get some time off from work haha
