I've been reading the manual and it's not just a case of taking out the drain plug and letting everything run out. Has anyone actually followed the method in the book to change the fluid?

Hi blockhead, I took both my magnas to the auto transmission guy and had the transmissions flushed. Seemed simpler and they can check for any fault codes if any.

I keep thinking about that, but although it's not hard to follow the method in the manual, i didn't think it would be all that involved either. Just seems strange that you can't just pull the plug and empty 5 litres of transmission fluid then top it up again, run it through the gears, drop all the fluid and then finish it off with a final top up.

I turned 50 last year and i always wondered about the validity of the 'ol "it wasn't like that in my day" phrase and now i understand......once you get to the point where you can throw that one around like confetti, it's too late!!

Changing the ATF is not something you do as often as motor oil changes, and the method for changing ATF is more involved for our cars...I find it easier to get the mechanic to do it.
