The remote locking/unlocking on the 380GT we just bought is not always easy. I suspect flat batteries in both remotes. Owners handbook did not provide info on battery replacement, but I found info in MMAL manual. There is no mention in the MMAL manual of programming remotes. I am concerned that when the batteries are out of the remotes, the programming will be lost.

Any ideas? The TJ procedure is simple...3 times between ACC and ON, then hit any button on one remote and then any button on second remote.

Cheers

I replaced the batteries a couple of times on my old 380 remotes, no loss of programming.

I too had the 2 380 keys both batteries replaced at same time one day; made no difference to anything (except both worked much better).

The programming code is in the car, not the key.
The car is programmed to accept the key, not the other way around.

So...flat battery will never matter as the key has a hard code in it that isn't lost when battery runs down.

But with my 380 GTL the battery lost charge so i replaced it but my central locking wont work now, i took it to Mitsubishi when i got the recall but they said they couldn't fix it. Something to do with the key wont re program to the car, thoughts?

Doesn't sound like a dead battery JHass.

Sounds more like a failed remote if Mitsi couldn't fix it.

Perhaps dropped it too many times?

JHass, i've replaced the car battery and the remote batteries several times in 2 different 380's now and never had an issue with either of them. The remote batteries just swap over and the remotes keep working as before, the car battery means you need to go through a bit of a setup but it's nothing too traumatic. When you say you changed the battery are you talking about the car battery or the remote? When you press the button on the remote are you still seeing the indicator light on the front?

Thanks guys. I replaced batteries on both remotes....wow what a difference. Paid $8 for battery at Dick Smith and $3 at Jaycar but different brands. Believe Panasonic is best battery to use.
