I just dropped the 380 in for a scheduled service and I was told that a recall has been issued for a 380 drive belt. I could not get any extra info at the time, I have not received a memo from MMAL and nothing is showing on the Aus Gov recalls website.

Will try and get more info when I pick up the car.

Seems a bit strange that, with even the newest ones over 5 years old, they'd be recalling drivebelts.
They'd be more-or-less due for one anyway on time alone, being a perishable rubber belt, let alone kilometres.

More to it than that, surely.
No manufacturer does a recall because a consumable item may be reaching end of life.

I went and picked up the car, I received an apology for being told about a recall. I was told that the office made a mistake producing the job sheet.

However that was not the worst of it. I had to wait 45 minutes for them to produce the invoice. They attempted to charge me for rear pads and disks that I supplied. They did not change the timing belt tensioner as I had requested and had recorded in advance on the job sheet. They had lost the old disks that I asked to be put in the boot. They also believe I need to replace the radiator and have quoted me $640 for the privilege

Sounds like a well organised mob!
Your old discs are probably in the metal scrap bin or in the boot of one of the mechanics' cars. I think they call it "recycling".

But thanks for reminding me why I keep my cars out of workshops.

There is a recall for a serpentine belt idler for some CJ Lancers, they wear quick and the belt can come off, apparently.

In case anyone cares . . .

Mitsu sent me a letter about the Takata passenger side airbag on a CH Lancer, you know, possibility of throwing out shrapnel if it goes off.
Another letter will follow to say when the swap will be done. With 30 million airbag deployment devices to be replaced, I'm not holding my breath. Meanwhile, passengers sit in the back. lol

Anyhow - if you have any questions on recalls that may apply to your Mitsu, ring:

Customer Assistance Centre, Mitsubishi AU.
1300 13 12 11, option 3, option 2. Have your VIN handy.

Worth doing if you bought your Mitsu second hand and didn't send in the change of ownership in the back of the service booklet.

Radiator on a car of this age, not likely. Either way, price is not that bad when you consider that they are not as easy to change as they are in a Magna

I can tell you that I have now seen TWO occasions of belt failure that should be addressed by a recall.

When the power steering belt shreds on the 6G75 it tends to gouge out the inside of the plastic timing belt cover around the crankshaft pulley.

This then shreds and jams into the cam belt causing catastrophic head/valve failure.

They really should adapt a piece of flat steel lining the plastic cover to stop it from happening.

Certainly justifies arecall in my opinion....certainly something to keep an eye on when car is being serviced.

The airbag recall extends beyond just Mitsubishi, but to a few other car manufacturers that used Takata airbags.
Does anyone know if this affects the 3rd gens?

Yes, a lot of other makes involved too.
Probably not relevant to third gens, but you can ring the above number, quote your VIN, and she (with sexy voice) will look up any outstanding recalls.

I rang yesterday, no recalls on the wife's CJ Lancer.

Good on Mitsu for being so customer oriented, unlike VW with their Diesel emissions concerns.

You forgot to mention it can also take out the crank angle sensor. lol

If the belt gets shredded along its length, it was probably not installed correctly. A correctly installed belt should give 100,000 Km + trouble free use.

Too easy to get it wrong if changing that belt from above, got to do it from both above and underneath, and double/triple check visually that the belt is sitting correctly on the pulleys, especially at the crank.

Naturally you checked they actually fitted the new items? dealerships are very good at auto generating beautiful documentation, does not mean they did the work. Have caught places out a number of times either not performing the work or charging for items never replaced. I use to mark parts when I had suspicions. use to love asking if they'd actually replaced something, showing them the mark and then watching the look on their face.

I reckon you'd be entitled to compensation if the discs had some value, after all you own them and asked for them back. Was it noted anywhere?

It's called "creative accounting". What appears on the bill may, or may not, have any resemblance to what actually happened in the workshop.
Got to keep the money flowing in, workshop has lots of overheads, and most customers won't question what is on the bill. Those customers who know anything about cars and can tell if something has actually been done are few and far between.

That's not to say all workshops engage in this practice though. But being unable or unwilling to return brake discs to you is a sure warning sign. Might just be a mechanic snapping up large metal parts for their cash value at recycling stations though.

Yes they fitted the new items, the replacement radiator does not have corrosion on the seam between the head tank and radiator body. Re the disks I did manage to get them back after asking for them and having the workshop manager search for them.
