Hey guys on friday i cleaned my engine ready to fix the power steering leak from the cover that goes over the pinion gear into the steering rack and the rear rocker cover gasket

all was going alright started up all fine came back 5 minutes later and it had stalled even after sitting for 2 days after fixing the leaks it's still running shit you can hear it missing at idle and if you touch the acel it want's to stall unless you do it very slowly and it will run fine

took the Distributor Cap off to make sure no water was in there is was all dry the points looked a little worn

disconnected the battery to make sure if there was any codes it would reset

i have been reading allot of people having the same kind of problem

unless someone has some better idea then me that can fix it tonight i might just get a set of leads and a distributor cap tomorrow and hope for the best

at least i have fixed the oil leaks haha

Have you got water into the sparkplug wells?

unless you were unlucky and the coil has packed it in. Steam is gaseous so it's possible for moisture to get into the electrics and shorted something.

On my V6 galant i had a similar issue after a hose down when it was running fine until it warmed up and starting steaming off and then lost 3 or 4 cylinders. Moisture got into the coil driver module and blew up the transistors.

I had a VK commodore which ran fine, after a hose down would not get above idle, that needed a new coil.

shit happens, if the cap and leads are dry and the plug wells are not full of water (or oil) could be a deeper issue. AFAIK the coilpack is integral in the distributor

...if you touch the acel it want's to stall unless you do it very slowly and it will run fine...

That's a very typical 'coil is cactus' symptom, ie. very gentle throttle (like a tiny bit more than idle) and everything's ok, but give it a bit more and it staggers or stalls. The coil is inside the distributor and the easiest fix is to replace the whole dizzy as a unit (it is possible to get the coil out but doing it on the car is tricky). Not sure where in Vic you are but if anywhere near Bayswater drop in to MitsFix, Mal should have a good second hand dizzy ready to go and you can grab a cap, rotor and o-ring while you're there (the advice on how to make the job easy will be free of charge).

Thanks guys i had planned to go to Bayswater after work today but with out a car i couldn't make it but ended up getting a whole new Distributor from Burson's dropped off to work $260 trade rather then $344 retail, tried Repco and they wanted $313 trade and $450 retail yeah no haha

in the old Distributor cap the points had almost nothing left on them compared to the new one but chucked it in and worked first go and is now running like it should only took about 15 minutes to do which wasn't to bad

Just need to replace the noisy air con compressor and that will be enough work done for now :)

Cool, good result. More $$$ than second hand but the peace of mind that comes from brand new is priceless :)
