Hey guys.
Just all of a sudden, my magna wont start. It's a TJ AWD magna, auto. There's just a ticking noise. Engine wont crank over. nothing!
I had NRMA check it out, and was told it was the starter motor. So I bought a second hand starter from the wreckers, put it in, and its doing exactly the same thing.
I have tested the starter motor out of the car, and it turns freely, nothing wrong with it. The battery was tested and all good.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Cheers

Hi, check the ground strap. From the negative terminal.... If you have a multimeter this is an easy check.

Does that mean its fixed, or just that the grounding was good and is not the problem?

Not fixed mate. The grounding was good, so something else.
The last thing I remember doing was washing some grease off around the engine area. The car started after I washed it no problems. It was the next morning it wouldn't start. Never had any problems starting before.
I thought maybe it had water in some areas, so I unplugged all connectors and dried them, sprayed some WD40 around. So everything's dry.

I'd double check the battery terminals again. Remove them and clean them on the inside with a round file. My sons 'Territory' had clicking recently. I had to clean the inside of the battery clamps with a dremel tool to get a hard varnish-like crap off them. Just because you can detect 'continuity' doesn't mean you have sufficient contact to actually carry sufficient current.
