View Full Version : TJ Magna Sports - Replacing shocks and springs
mayhem

Hello,
My TJ Sports has little over 200k kms, the shocks have always creaked a little on speed bumps etc over the last 3 years, however I think they may be finally letting go and compromising the handling.
Should I replace it with factory gear? or is it worth going for an aftermarket set of say lower King Springs springs and xxxx shocks (not familiar with best shock brands) slightly lower than stock Sports?
If you have a ball park cost for both standard replacement and aftermarket that would be great also, I'm in Melbourne BTW
Thanks

Unless you can get OE shocks cheap, its not worth it when there are aftermarket items just as good or better than OE for less.
A full set of aftermarkets can be had for upwards of $300, more reputable brands around $600 or more plus fitting.
It is a moot point really, considering the genuine Mitsubishi ones are manufactured by Monroe anyway (I think).
If you're planning on lowering in the future, save up and get a set of Boge shocks and Dobinson springs, arguably the best combo for the third gens - do it yourself or get the help of some mates and you should see change out of a grand.
I got a set of Selby shocks and King Low SPs and helped a mate fit them to my sedan, and cost me about $750

Thanks, from what I have read I may go with Sachs shocks paired with my factory sports springs?
edit: I'll possibly stick with the standard height/springs, though i have no one to help out, so looking for a shop to supply and fit in Melb.

Give Mal at Mitsfix Bayswater a call, he should be able to line you up with what you need for a good price.

The creak is probably the sway bay bushes - the lazy Shocks/Dampers are probably well in need of replacement - but if you don't replace the swap bay bushes the creak will stay - talking from experience - Creak Creak

Sounds about right, 3.5 years and the suspension has had no work done, i've been noticing a small thump/tap in the rear on some corners, pretty sure it isnt the boot lid etc.

How would new OEM suspension compare to the Sachs shocks fitted with stock springs?
My car also has just over 200K km on it, the fronts seem worn but the rears somehow still seem ok, though making some noise
