Hey everyone, while I was driving my car (it's just a bush basher so I didn't care too much about it) at some point I've hit something and broken the sump tray thing underneath the car. I never knew this happened so I just went for a drive like usual but then my car stopped while driving. I got out and there was a little bit of smoke coming from the air intake, I checked the oil and there wasn't one drop on it. I only drove this once without oil in it. I've tried push starting it, towing it and dumping the clutch to try and start it but it just won't start. The front tires just lock in it feels like. It's a no crank, no start. Also the battery is fine and fully charged, even tried jump starting with jumper cables onto another car. What can I do to try and fix it? I don't want it to be broken already as I only bought it like less than a week ago. Thank you

when you try to push start it and you dump the clutch, do the wheels lock and freeze, or do they turn and you can hear the engine turning over?
it sounds like the engine has seized due to oil starvation. if thats the case, you have a great big paper weight now.
full rebuild or engine transplant.
wish you all the best...

Yeah the wheels lock and freeze, I hope the engine isn't seized!

Unfortunately it sounds like it's seized. Doesn't take long to weld metal to metal with no oil in between. I reckon it wouldn't have just stopped though, it would have put up a fight and it should have been blindingly obvious that something was very wrong. The oil light should also have come on which basically means "switch the engine off immediately or sooner".

Sounds pretty stuffed and seized. Manual transmission by the sounds so if the wheels turn in neutral, won't clutch start just wheels locked ( assuming you're trying a tall gear like 3rd upwards), won't turn over by starter , battery good, no evidence of oil on the stick, potential sump damage, and smoke exiting the intake.
I would say that smoke was it's last dying breath.
Get a socket onto the crankbolt and if you can't turn it , it's welded itself together. Engine rotates clockwise

all you need is a high KM running second hand 3rd gen engine
fit a timing belt before you drop the motor back in
all up ...should be less than a another bush basher
next time put chequer plate under the sump area

Fair enough.
You got it, you drove it, you killed it, now it is time to bury it.
Next car you get, work out where the dipstick is and what it is for, and if you hit something, check for damage. OK?

definetly seized if wheels locked and those other symptoms by the sounds of things. if you're going to get rid of it and buy another, salvage what you can and keep it as spares for the next one. stuff like alternator, starter motor, battery, etc. (assuming the parts you keep are in good working order) thats what i have done in the past, its a good way of diagnosing problems too! if something goes wrong with your new car, you can swap suspected parts with one you have as spare to check if it fixes the problem. sometimes it can be quicker than running diagnostic procedures and its alot cheaper too because you dont have to buy the part, you already have one in stock :)
