hey all
for front and rear rocket gaskets, and front cam seal i was qouted "around" $500 from local repairer.
im unable to anything myself due to injury
was just wondering if this price seems decent enough and is there anything i should be making sure gets done while they are replacing these items to?
cheers

Thats sounds expansive mate, not hard to do yourself and the parts are only about $100

One of those how long is a piece of string questions really. this is my line of thinking. I was looking at rocker and plug tube seals myself as they're about 5 year old and starting to weep again. 5years seems to be it for the rocker for my car.
I have done the rear bank plugs and it's a real pain for the inexperienced , i have traction control and cruise so lots of lines to unplug and sort out. not a quick job. I think $70 for a full set for both banks.
The cam seal, now that's basically as much work as a timing belt job I reckon and anytime the belt is done I get the cam and crankseals, tensioner and pulleys replaced. cost effective and good practice that's my opinion.
If the cam leak is is bad enough to do this then good chance the timing belt is contaminated with oil and could cause premature failure.
There's no way I'd shell that out just for that but I would definitely get the timing belts, and all that gear done, crank seals, maybe waterpump, all depends at what stage or how old those bits are.
i'd also do the rear bank with longlife platinum plugs too whilst the plenum is off to get to the rear rocker cover so this $500 job may be worth blowing out to the max to save in the long term on labour but easy to say this, you still need the spare cash to go that deep.
always worth getting extra quotes and I used a newcastle dealer for my timing gear and honestly it was not any more expensive in my opinion than a garage and I felt they were best qualified with specialised tooling and experince not to stuff it up especially the tensioner, and touch wood no issues or leaks .
Just my thoughts

Sounds like a reasonable price to me. If a qualified mechanic with all the tools and shop and overheads says he can do it for $200 I would be worried. If you want to save a few bucks you can buy all the parts yourself and then just get them to fit, so they only charge labour at their hourly rate.

Hi. I was quoted $350 to do rear rocker gasket and full set of plugs. I thought that was ok because I don't really have the work space to do it myself

$500 if fair - to change the cam seal means fiddling with cam belts - but if the car is near a cam belt change maybe stump up near to another $1000 or so and have the belt, tensioner, rear and crank seals, water pump all changed - it will save money later.

With us, USING GENUINE GASKETS including thrust cap and dist seal, $454.30 for parts and labour, add $30 if cross over hose required
IF the cam seal is being done, and not the thrust cap then you need a new belt kit
