The remote control is not working so I open it up and the little microswitch seems to jam and not release, the close button and the boot button work ok. There is some gummy moisture in this and I remember cleaning this out 6 months ago and so I got the remote to work for a while but it's playing up again. I've given it a quick clean but the open door microswitch is still jamming. As I recall it was jamming a few months ago and I got it to work for a while. Is there an easy fix or do I try and track down another switch and solder that on?
There is an article online somewhere. I have temp repaired them and they work for another month using wd40/rp7/silicon spray then let them dry off.
They are a huge pain in the butt to maintain once they go dodgy so in the past I've just given up and gotten a new one, they are $60-75 on fleabay and can be programmed in seconds.
If you have time to burn and microscopical working and soldering tools try getting a new button though :) lol

Thanks Neo, I couldn't find the article directly relating to microswitch but am going to give the WD40 a go, nothing to lose. I can solder, I can get a switch from another defunct unit, this is already the second one that has done this to me.

DON'T use WD-40. Go and buy yourself a can of CRC Contact Cleaner. It's formulated for electronic parts cleaning and will not dissolve important connections or be acidic against the PCB in the remote.
I swear by a gentleman in Queensland who repairs the Magna remotes and makes them like new. I've had a few remotes repaired by him and he does an excellent job. His website is here:
http://www.sandb.com.au/magna/remote/repair/
and he's also a forum member.
I have found him to be honest, reliable and true to his word. And no, I don't have shares in his business!
The best thing is that he will repair your remote for half the price, or less, of buying a new one and if you have two remotes you can send him one to repair whilst using the one you keep and then send it out to to be repaired or refurbished.

Thanks Stroppy, I tried to remove one of the microswitches from a defunct fob but broke it in the process so in the end I had some contact cleaner and used that, the fob now works but the button still doesn't give what I would say is a positive engagement.

There are 2 different styles of remote, one has red/green/grey buttons, the other is larger and has 3x grey buttons. Mine is the latter, are they interchangeable?

I tried a bunch of things to free up my original fob, which had gunked up in the same way as described by the OP. Electrical contact cleaner worked a bit but I ended up biting the bullet and replacing it with a new one from Mitsu. Not cheap unfortunately. Next time I'll be using the bloke Stroppy linked to if he is still in the business when it happens.

You can replace the microswitch with one virtually the same size. Go to any Jaycar Electronics store with the part in hand and you will find that they have a replacement. If you are good with a soldering iron you could put it back onto the PCB.
Honestly though, I'd just send it to the gentleman I linked above. He is really good. He sends you an update email to tell you about the progress of the work on the remotes and will also tell you, flat out, if the remote is worth repairing.
There is a video on Youtube showing how to make the microswitch clickers "clicky" again... Here it is:

If you aren't happy with him I'll shout you a counter meal at the nearest pub. That's how confident I am in the man.

Thanks Stroppy for the link to the video, wish I had seen this before I started on mine.

Closest one they have according to their website is 6mm by 6mm, it looks a little too big for our remotes, do you know if it will work still?
