so after 280,000kms of abuse my poor engine has finally let go (stuffed lifters, spun bearings, worn vales, pistons, seals etc....), this is my daily and track, so i will be putting in a new engine and slowly build up my blown motor...
I want to know how many hours would it take for an R&R of the engine in a full workshop with the correct tools??
My car is a 5 speed manual tranny...
What would a workshop charge in SYDNEY (BECAUSE *** U SYDNEY) to this this kinda job?? As i am starpped for time and need the car back on asap
thanks

what is your budget?
Labour wise a couple hundred bucks max I'm hoping -$700>800??
Cost of engine and other fidley bits separately 1.5-2k im guessing
Or if someone is in Syd that has the time, space and tools and experience ill be happy to pay for the job and give a hand

I would take a stab and say there is 15-20 hours of work in changing over the engine, at roughly $120p/h (average workshop rate)
Add onto that $40 for new oil, $15 new oil filter, $35 for the air filter, $30 for coolant, $30 gearbox oil (maybe a bit more if its auto?) $120 Exhaust manifold gaskets
May as well chuck some new plugs in there too, another $100 there, $30 for a fuel filter, maybe even a set of leads if they are in poor shape ($100)
Then there may also be some gaskets and seals that can be done while its out and easy to do, rocker covers, sump gasket, dizzy seal, driveshaft seals ect.
All up around $3000 plus whatever the engine itself costs you.
If you get the workshop to source the engine it will probably be around $2000 (exchange rebuild with a limited warranty ect)
I've done one in 6 hours...on my own....completely unassisted.
I drop the whole K-frame with engine, trans etc in one hit, then work on it at ground level.
