Can anyone tell me if it is possible to retain the security light built into the original head unit?
cheers Harry.:woot:

I've never seen/heard of it being done.

Best bet it to retrofit a completely separate light just for this somewhere else in the car

That security light on the radio has nothing to do with the actual security of the car. It just denotes the radio is protected from thieves with a security code. If you look at the instrument cluster when you lock the car, it will display the real security light briefly to show you the car is locked and secure.
You may be able to get a little build-it-yourself kit from Jaycar or any electronics store to put a flashing LED in your car though, if you value it.

Maybe one of these?

Car Alarm Dummy LED / stick on battery WIRELESS flashing car security caravan
