Hi everyone

The other week the air conditioner indicator light blew and in the process of changing it noticed that there appears to be bulbs behind the air conditioner and demister icons. However these don't switch on and I can't recall if they ever did.

Can someone please kindly confirm whether the icons are supposed to be backlit?

Thanks

Billy

I have a TH Advance wagon - they're both backlit when activated in my car.

Same on my TF. Small green lights when the button is pushed.

But are the switches themselves backlit to make them more visible at night? (I think thats what you are actually asking). I cant remember. They don't these days but might have previously. Perhaps I have a blown globe too.

Thanks guys.

The 'switched on' indicators for the A/C and Demister are lit up green and orange respectively, but I'm not sure whether the symbols are backlit (see photo). There are bulbs behind the symbols which don't appear to have blown (they are still clear whereas they normally go a stormy colour when blown). I might just source some new bulbs and test it out.

Just went to my car and they don't light up when the parking lights are on.

Switches are definitely backlit... There are two bulbs in each switch. Will post up pictures later on on how I changed mine to red to match the rest of the dash.

LOL maggie3.5!!! dejavu?!?!
remember we were discussing this same issue?
i still havent changed my switches so they light up too. but yeah i opened up the demister switch and theres 2 globes in there. tiny as and probly extremely hard to find. so buying a handful of switches from the wreckers like you suggested is the way to go. i been quite lazy cos here in ballarat its freezing in winter and i dont want to work on the car. just by chance, do you have any spare left over when you bought some? demister and aircon switches with both globes working in the 2 of them? if you do, i'll pay for them...
cheers

Thanks maggie3.5, it looks like a trip to the wreckers this weekend is in order. I'm normally pretty attentive to my car but the backlighting on these switches must have blown years ago at the same time without my even noticing.

my suggestion is to get as many switches as possible because ,,,globes could be blown in them as well,

Hi everyone

After a trip to the local wreckers we are back in business. Unfortunately, from the switches I managed to get, none of the backlighting bulbs worked, but all of the indicator bulbs did. As such, I removed the bulb covers from the bulbs that did work (the covers just break apart due to age / heat etc) and fitted some blue T10 covers that I had lying around. The backlighting photos aren't the best but I can assure you that the backlighting colour matches the dials and everything else etc.

What if you can't find any Magna switches?

If you're having trouble finding a 3rd gen switch, try and find a Mitsi CE series Mirage or Lancer as they have the same air conditioning and demister switches. They are even easier to remove from the car than the Magnas' switches as long as the radio has already been removed from the wreck. The radio surround/ash tray unclips pretty easily to reveal one screw under the HVAC fascia. Once undone, unclip the fascia with the help of a small flat head screw driver. Unplug the switches and they just pop out.
