Mitsubishi magna 94 se ts auto v6 had a small oil leak just purchased the car the previous owners said from front gasket?
Now magna is leaking oil (big puddle sized) and vertually all of the new oil poured back in, a friend checked if sump plug was in still he said it is, how do i fix this and is it expensive please i really need help thanks

You sound like you're not over confident about doing it yourself. It is entirely doable. A bit fiddly. With the right gasket it shouldn't take a mechanic long to do. Pick one close to you and have it towed there or get someone who knows how to read a manual and use the tools to do it where you are. Get a manual and read up on it. Get the right tools and the gasket. Not hard. A bit fiddly getting a couple of the sump screws off and on. 10mm socket short and long extension for medium/small ratchet.

what concerns me is you just purchased this car

did it pass a safety certificate and rego inspection etc




...
one day some one might have time to do a write ups with pictures on these types of DI Y jobs for second gens V6 stuff

nothing even anything close on youtube for a V6 3 or 3.5 ltr

Yeah it passed in October considering the problems with it What annoys me is the older gentlemen that sold it to me is that I asked him. Several times if there was any issues with the car safety etc as children would be traveling in the vehicle and he said NO all is perfect but I see now all he cared about was the money NOT anybodys safety and take advantage of a woman

Drain the box first, Then raise the frontdrivers side on to a stand.

It is a simple job really, just a bit fiddly in removing a couple of the bolts holding the sump on. Most come off easy. Long extension ratchet (all 10mm socket) A couple/three between the sump and the crossbeam are not that accessible but doable with the right tool. Short extension small ratchet. You then need to clean/gently scrape off wipe clean gasket/fluid from box and from the sump surface where the gasket goes. There'll be three round button magnets inside the sump. If you spray some degreaser in the sump and hose the crud off make sure you catch the magnets. Wear gloves. The crud is really black and sticky. The magnets will be slippery. They go back in the depressions inside the sump. The best way to clean them I know is to wipe them with tissue paper. With the sump wiped clean and magnets in place. (btw, take note of the amount of crud and the colour of the fluid.) put a couple of dabs of silicon on the sump edges and position the gasket, (about 12 bucks from memory). Lying on your back with enough room to maneuver the sump while positioning it, practice positioning it and locating the bolt. Once you have the first bolt in don't tighten it. Don't tighten any of the bolts. Do say the middle bolt on one side first. Then the same bolt on the other side. Then the sump will be in place and put in the other bolts. Once >all< bolts are in gently do them in, don't tighten. It is very easy to overtighten. Zigzag around till they are all holding the sump against the gasket. This is a very important point. If you overtighten you may be back where you started with a leak. I've done it. Without a torque wrench, do each bolt up about 1/2 - 2/3 of a turn. Then do each again about 1/3 turn. Again. That's enough. Put a new gasket on the sunp plug and tighten that up. Put in 4l recommended fluid. Run the car till hot, about 1/2 hour drive should do it. With the car running and the gear in neutral Check the fluid level and add as necessary. Kick a tyre and swear at the bloke who sold it to you and have a well deserved cuppa.

A good mechanic with magna experiance shouldn't take long at all. It took me first time double three times that. Second time becuase I overtightened first time I knew the proceedure and took maybe an hour.

If you decide to do it, get the material and tools and set aside a halfday and ask questions for clarification and or get a workshop manual.
