So little while ago I posted asking if anyone knew if a KH blackout cluster would tick over to zero after it hit 999999, no one could confirm that it would and searching the forum just came up with suggestions that winding odometer up would take it back to a low figure.
My car has 145000 odd ks on it, new cluster had 360000 odd. thought what I got to loose, wired up cluster to a computer power supply then hooked in the fan, was doing about 200 k an hour. tad slow at this rate would take best part of a long freaking time! Found a simple signal generator circuit made from a 555 timer chip on a computer forum, made it up connected it and wola! the ks started ticking over, calculated it was doing about 1500 k an hour, any faster than this and the cluster would actually shut down until i wound back the signal. settled at about 1200 k an hour. about 18 days later it gets to 999999, and thats where it stays! there was no glorious roll over to zero. dOH :facepalm

point of the story .. kh blackout clusters dont roll over to zero, not sure if this is true for all digital odometers.

Anyways spoke to a guy that repairs clusters he will be able to sort out odometer for a fee, a generous fee at that.

If anyone is familiar with reflashing the eprom on these and willing to give me a few tips feel free to send a message!

Being an electronics nut I appreciate your exploits, and and the snafu moment.. bloody electronics, I bet there is a couple of pins to short on the eprom to reset or clear it - but that's the knowledge that commands the $$ to know.

how much did they quote to fix the odometer?

I have a KH blackout here you can have for $50plus post. Think it has 330,000km. If you can live with the kms being out.....

Thanks for the offer Rush, got slight OCD tendencies having the wrong K's would annoy me no end!!
If anyone has one with less than 150000 ks on it I may be interested!
I imagine these clusters with less than 150000 on them would be rather rare.

TJ, they quoted me $165, drop it off, pick it up in couple days.
As for the TC97101p, I was guessing that was where the K's are stored but I dont have the tools to reprogram it.
Have seen a video on reprogramming k's, but the chip he reprogrammed was different and the free software he was using does not apear to support the TC97101p. So I figure, buying the software, connecting chip to computer and then trying to work out which line of code to modify may just be easier to get the pros to do it.
When I spoke to the guy who quoted me $165 I didnt know where eprom was, after i spoke to him realised it was rather accessible, dosent require dismantling entire cluster and if they have right tool (imagine they would) could be done without removing chip from board. When Im ready to install this thing, hopefully by end of July I will call him again and mention the accessability of chip, will also see if i can find any other places that do this work.
