G'day all, had a couple of strange things happen lately with my TS 3.0 ltr manual wagon.
No big deal, just thought I'd put it in the forum, might help some-one out.

1. Returned to the car, parked in Bunnings car park (luckily, not my driveway), saw about 2 lts of new engine oil under the car. As I had just changed engine oil and filter, I thought I must not have tightened the filter ..... but no, the dipstick was not properly seated. I put it back in, started the car, bugger me it popped out again. Turned out the PCV valve was blocked, guess there's a bit of blowby eh?
Anyway, I replaced the PCV valve, have had no problems since. Don't understand that.

2. The car wouldn't start, had ignition lights etc, but no solenoid click ... nothing.
Clambered underneath expecting to have to remove the starter, but found that the wire had come off the solenoid terminal ... easy fix that one, squeeze the terminal a bit, and a cable tie to hold it, job done.

Also, thanks for your words Ron, she's been thru hell and back because of drugs. Has now given them the flick to get a life back, is back to normal now, just don't know for how long.
Regards, Terry

The TS V6 popping things out due to crank case pressure building up is a known problem.
With mine, it was oil coming up past the oil filler cap.
Best to clean out the hoses involved in the PCV system, as well as cleaning out the rocker covers. Wet carbon accumulates in the gap between the double layer of metal in the rocker covers, and the tiny spigots that connect to the hoses block up. The pressure builds up and you get oil leaks in various places, like the dipstick, oil filler cap, cam & crank seals, etc.

In short, keep an eye on it.

Thanks for the reply MadMax, you say it's a common problem?
Have cleaned out the hoses, but not the rocker covers. Now that you mention it, I did have oil leaking from the filler cap, but it's stopped now.
I hadn't connected the two.
I don't understand, if the compression is/was blowing past the rings, why does it not blow smoke or use oil?

That problem has been mentioned before, yes.
Compression blowby gets dumped back into the intake piping and gets burnt in the combustion process. The idea of the double layer in the rocker covers is to allow oil to separate out so only clean gas goes back into the intake. It needs to be really bad for you to see blue smoke out of the tail pipe, but if you remove the intake plumbing off the throttle body you will see it has made quite a mess.

Sorry for the delay in responding MadMax, and thank you for the explanation.
The old girl was using a bit of oil, but since I've had her and given her some tlc and regular use (not just short trips around town), she's improved out of sight to what she was.
Haven't had to add oil since the last oil/filter change 5000Klm ago.
I always smelt oil when driving, but that's gone too (or I've become used to it and don't smell it anymore!)
But I'll take heed and clean the rocker covers, might as well do the throttle body while I'm at it.
