Local car yard has a 2004 TL ES wagon, 4 speed advertised, yet the VIN quoted starts like this: 6MMTW8D46...

I'm guessing this makes it a TW, now the question - how do you visually tell the TW and TL apart just by looking at photos?

For an ES...Colour Coded Headlights in the TW... Raised Black plastic Number plate mount ( if its still there), TW issue hubcaps ( that was an official upgrade lol) New Material...
But the VIN tells the story...
Just a heads up, there is a VR Wagon ( fairly Rare ) that has a 5 Speed Gearbox, which is a good second quicker to 100 kmph than the 4 Speed....

MadMax, Now I am curious. Were there any TW's manufactured in 2004? In my wombling around trying to sort my TL I found that the TL was manufactured from 2003 into 2005. What is the compliance plate telling you?

Thanks for the info, gentlemen. It's definitely a TW from the VIN and your description.
Haven't seen the car in the flesh, so build date is the first thing I will look at.
I'm guessing if they got the model wrong, the year is wrong too.

6MMTW8D464T002269 ,
My june 2005 LS is 6MMTW8A465T006636 so it maybe very late 2004. i believe dec 2004 on was TW also when they upped the wty.
2 quick cues are, colour coded headlights and a mounting block on the front bumper for the rego plate, also series II badge on the tailgate

The dash in the TW has a white outline around the dials and the TL doesn't

I figure the car must be an early TW, late 2004?
Anyhow, scoured the car yard and the thing isn't there! Sold already, possibly?
Wouldn't mind it actually, seeing the one wagon I own already, a TL ES made 04/2004, has been "adopted" by my daughter in Waikerie and I'm missing the load space of a wagon . . .
There is a much older Magna wagon in that car yard, $1,500 but condition is unknown. Might be worth a look tomorrow.

When Mitsubishi released the TW in late 2004 they badged & marketed it as the Series 2, implying that it was the second series of the TL - hence the confusion whether TL or TW.

Yes that sure did cause confusion as there is a series 2 TJ but it was still a TJ,
