about a year ago I had a new windscreen put in the TW. Ever since then there's been a wind noise around the left side of the windscreen. It doesn't happen around town, it only starts above 80kph. I went on a long trip on the w/end and it drove me mad. There's a trim strip on the left and right hand side of the screen: can I remove these and add more sealant?

it was some some mobile crowd and I've lost the receipt, so there's no chance of me getting them back to fix the job.

As a test, put a strip of gaff tape down the edge of the window over the seal then see if the noise is still there.
Take the tape and scissors with you when your driving so you can add/remove tape to different places.
You should be able to narrow down where the wind noise is occuring.
From there, you could pop off the trim and add a bit of silicone, or just leave the tape on for ultra ghetto spec...

Thank you, great idea. How does the trim strip come off? Does it just pop off?

Yes it does, but if you need to ask you will probably destroy the plastic clips that have gone brittle over the years.
Broken clips can't be replaced as they are put onto the opening before the glass is glued in and the clips end up partly buried in sealant.
But if you want to try, push the trim away from the frame and try to lift the glass side of the trim off the glass. Don't bent the trim in the process, otherwise it won't go back on nicely!

Once you have identified the area - the trim is probably slightly off the glass and vibrating in the breeze - just run a bead of clear silicone along the joint, cover with masking tape, force the silicone in more, then when set clean up.

The wind whistle could also be the mirror or the passenger door glass not sealing correctly, so hunt it down before doing anything.

there's a big gap in the plastic trim that sits below the screen, between it an the bonnet, on the LHS. It's bulging away from the glass for a length of about 300mm. Which is just where the noise comes from. I've taped over it and I'll take it for a drive on the freeway.
The LHS door seal looks good.

well that was interesting. I taped over the gap on the LHS between w/screen and lower trim, drove it at 100kph; noise now gone on the left, but similar noise audible on the RHS. Taped over a similar gap on the RHS, noise now gone, but I can now clearly hear the roof racks. At least I can remove them, and I know where to put the silicone.
Thanks for the great advice.
