For those of you that dont know I'm on a bit of a project/mission to drive manual again after losing my left arm.

See HERE (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92462&page=6), HERE (http://youtu.be/3N6dlxVpAhk), HERE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHFTvbm_nZg) and HERE (https://grabcad.com/library/amputee-vs-manual-standard-gearbox-1) for a feel of where I'm at with it.

But this is all for my own sequential shifter assembly. Now I need to focus on "Plan B", which is to develop both a prosthetic and the strength/movement to use a standard H-Pattern shifter.

Currently I'm printing off a few parts to connect me to the end of a standard shifter, but I have doubts as to whether or not I'm going to have the full range of movement required to make consistently accurate gear changes.

What I would like to know is would I be blowing my money by shelling out for a short shifter? Is the required distance to change gears greatly reduced compared a standard shifter? Is the required effort to change gears any greater with a short shifter? Do these short shifters disintegrate when wet?

As with all my posts all constructive and positive input is greatly appreciated.

best mod i have ever done to the car

enormously....if the lever is in neutral..then ther throw is less that half the boot area

yes...it is greater ...but ,,this can be offset by either leaving the shaft at std height ,or not take as much off

Do these short shifters disintegrate when wet?

what......it is all inside..no water contact

Ah, man, thank you!

The disintegrate when wet was an attempt at humour.

I took some time out to try different joints and links to connect myself to the gear stick today. Turns out my short arm just isn't strong enough and lacks the required range of movement.

Looks like I'm pushing on with my sequential shifter.

I will however use the stock manual shifter in my exercise rig to try build the strength/movement required. I'm pretty confident I could get there with some hard work.

I genuinely appreciate the feedback with this.
