Hey guys and gals,
My alternator is a bit loud and I was wondering if the bearing is in the pulley? IF SO is it worthwhile swapping over just the pulley or would I be better off getting the entire unit rebuilt? if rebuild is best anyone got a good place around bayswater?
I am on a tight budget at the moment so cheapest is best option.
Thanks all :)

Best off talking to Mal (MADMAGNA) at mitsfix (see the sponsor section). He has a heap of good 2nd hand parts for Magna's & 380's
Cheers

Also check the drive belt...if they are worn they can make a terrible noise on start up in the mornings.

sucks to be broke but you can get brand new Bosch for under $300. By the time someone replaces the bearings , regulator and other work I don't think that'd be much cheaper.
There's a bearing either end. If you can get the pulley off , that's the easy end. At the slip ring end there's a smaller bearing which you'd probably need a puller to get it off.
I rebuilt my 1994 galant alternator which is a mits electric alternator. I had to get the local garage to get the small bearing off but after that it was pretty easy . replaced the rectifier pack which was soldered in, regulator, bearings. Cost me about $140 in bits. local auto sparky I think wanted $400-450 for a rebuild but they're known to be overpriced here.
If it's really noisy and bearings best to attend to it. I've had bearings seize twice in an Express alternator.
maybe a serviceable used one to get you by otherwise I'd buy a brand new unit. I see them used $60 delivered on the Bay
As mentioned by stroppy, an undertensioned drive belt can produce a rattly resonant noise which may appear to come from the alternator usually worse when cold.
