View Full Version : Low Beam Out

My poor old sigma GJ seems to be having a run of minor failures lately.
Today its the L.H.S low beam lamp (outer unit) that has given up the ghost .

Of course the service manual bears no tear down resemblance on what is actually there.
Wiring schematic shows 3 connections to the lamp - so there are 2 filaments in the lamp.
I always thought that the high beam was just the inner lamp unit and low beam was just the outer lamp unit. But high beam causes both lamp units to "light up".

Anyone know if the halogen bulb is just a standard H4 unit?
And how to replace it?
I ask because on these old cars you really don't want to dismantle anything you don't need to.

Thanks Buffy.

I'll take a photo of the assembly tomorrow and hope it matches your repair manual.
There is a wire clip on the back of the lamp unit that seems to hold a cover in place (just guessing!).
Most likely the bulb is a 90watt/100watt H4 halogen unit (again just guessing!).

A bulb parts chart for your reference
http://www.narva.com.au/products/globeChart

for the sigmas a hi /low beam and the other a designated high beam so two different bulbs there

Just what I needed - thanks for that.

Thank goodness it turned out to be a simple procedure for the GJ, unlike the one for the GH.
Bulb turned out to be a common H4-55W/60W one (even Kmart sells them!).

On the GJ The lamp is held in place by a levered wire clip rather than a retaining ring as per the GH description.
