Hey guys (and ladies), got a bit of an issue i believe with 99 th wagon:hmm:, having been informed that when parked up it leaks ( after running/driving it out/in of the shed ), possible leak location is power steering rack, around left hand/mid back of the motor ( could be something else obviously ) but it was said that power steering was drained ( to the point it splurted into the engine bay:facepalm ) but the crank angle sensor did not get disconnected, as having a quick look online, have read that it required disconnecting the sensor when replacing/bleeding the power steering fluid, just wondering if this is correct, and if so, where might i find this sensor, does it require removal of timing belt covers, and alike, as when they done the first drain, not only did they not remove the sensor, but afterwards, when running, it makes a hell of a racket now which it never done so before, am thinking may just be air in the line, but worse case could be something worse? trying to get it sorted as only this problem, and noisy aircon' are stopping it from going in for roadworthy. any advice/help would be appreciated, am a tn/tm/tp man, prefer my 4 on the floor than 6 packs.

p.s. have 450ml bottle of nulon power steering w/stop leak, been told by auto store this will work for complete fill or top up, but am thinking it may need a complete bleed/fill.

The way i read it , basically they want the engine to crank, not fire to turn the pump gently until initially for bleeding. I always thought if it was turned lock to lock it bleed out that way. It's just the sensor connector that needs to be disconected which from memory will exit the timing cover, maybe a clamp to hold it the routes to the top of the engine where a harness will plug into it, maybe somewhere central across the Vee above the top cam covers. You'll know when you got it , the engine will crank but not start which is the objective

Yeah its the rounded triangle type plug that is mounted using a 10mm bolt to an intake running on the drivers end of the intake manifold.

Cheers guys, all good now, new fluid/stop leak is in, all running well so far, only thing left to do on it now is aircon inner bearing, and stop the breaks squeaking then roadie/rego time. Thanks for the help TW/Neo, was exactly where you both said, 10mm bolt, triangular plug just above the timing cover.

Time to rebuild/exchange steering rack then. Had the same issue with mine, used the lucas Power steering stop leak for ages, but in the end I had to get an exchange rack.

Yeah I was talking to a guy at autobarn, said his brother had similar problems, said in the end he replaced the steering rack for about $300 in exchange with his old one. May have to happen yet with the wagon, will see how it goes now its been bled/refilled properly, could be cured. could also be something simple like an o-ring.
