I am a new member and a new owner of a 2003 AWD Diamante VR, which I think is a rebadged Magna. I don't know much about it, but I previously owned a 92 Diamante which I liked, and I also liked this car when I test drove it. I specifically wanted a large 4WD sedan, and this was about all I could find in my price range.

I am looking for an owner's manual and any other information I can get about this car. So far everything seems to work except the clock, which doesn't display at all. The engine lights in the upper display come on when the key is turned, but no sign of the clock. Does anyone know what fuse controls this? The head unit has been replaced with a more modern Fusion but I don't know if that would have anything to do with this. Otherwise is there an element that would have to be replaced? Any information would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.
At some point there was a copy of the factory service manual available for download from this site I think. Do a search on service manual to see if its still available.
As you will find out, as you look at various posts here, Its pretty important to have the auto transmission fluid changed regularly.
Ive had three 2004 Awd's (one from new) and all of them have developed an assortment of minor clunks and rattles in the front suspension. My first one I had back and forth to Mitsubishi for some time trying to get it resolved. They changed both front struts, strut bearing plates and sway bay links all with no effect. Eventually they gave up and told me it was part of the awd experience. lol. I've just learnt to live with the clunks. Here in Aus the Magna is great value for money if you are buying. The equivalent cars from Ford or Holden are usually more expensive with higher klm's and they seem to fall apart inside quicker than the Magna.
Something else to remember. When it comes time to have the timing belt replaced, insist on (and pay the extra money for ) a genuine Mitsubishi timing belt tensioner. The non genuine just appear to be not so good. Resulting in a rattly engine on startup.
Im sure there are people here with a lot more knowledge than I who will also help you get educated about these cars.
Have you driven it on a wet road yet?
regards
peter

Thanks for the info. The car seems solid and in good nick, no rattles or other obvious issues. Relatively low kms, 130k. It hadn't been serviced though and the first thing I did was have the timing belt replaced and all fluids, including transmission. Should be good to go for awhile. Haven't had it in the wet yet but have read impressive things about it. I live on a farm and I wanted a 4wd because I was sick of getting stuck in my own driveway. Now it cruises up the hill and on grass like it is on the flat. Wonderful!

I found the service manual and will download it soon. Thanks again for the tip.

Shine a light on the clock panel. See if it is getting power. Perhaps when they changed the head unit the clock has been left unplugged.

Sometimes the bulb can go which means the clock won't display but it will be working.

Thanks. That's a great idea. I don't see a thing, though, not with the key off or on.

I can't even figure out for sure where the clock is supposed to be. I'm assuming it is in the display above the heater vents? When I turn on the key I see the oil light to the left of centre, then the battery light, then the seat belt light. That is all. There is some blank area to the right of the seat belt light and a larger blank area to the left of the oil light. I'm guessing the clock display should be there. Is that correct? Does this car even have a clock? Or would the clock be part of the factory head unit? It is a bit of a mystery to me. I sure wish I could find a owner's manual for this thing. My understanding is that the Diamante is the same as the Magna, but maybe there are small differences (like the clock).

You are correct re the location of the clock above the heater vents. The up and down arrow buttons below the mode button are usd to set th eclock (when you get yours going) Have the key turned to accessory with the engine of I think fropm momory the up arrow changes the hour display and the down the minute.
What couintry are you in?

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the reply. I have tried what you suggest but no sign of the clock. I am in New Zealand.

Is that true? It certainly seems to be the case with mine but I didn't think any normal car came without a clock. If it really doesn't have one I can live with that, I would just like to know for sure.
