So Since changing the Auto Trans Fluid on my TL its started slipping out of second, I drive around a small roundabout on my way to work in the morning and everyday (unless i let the car run for a couple of mins) half way around when i put my foot back on the throttle the car revs but doesn't engage the gear, it does this both in normal Auto and when i switch to trip-tonic does anyone know the cause of this? and is it an easy fix or a new gearbox??

What colour was the old transmission fluid?
Did you use the stuff from MMAL or a multipurpose ATF?
If it was blackish then it might be because the new fluid is too slippery for the worn transmission.
Apparently its quite common for poorly serviced gearboxes to misbehave after a fluid change.
Just saying its a possibility, but I am sure there are many other causes that people here know about.

Also quite common to misread the fluid level and have the pump suck air whenever you go around a corner.

I think I'd follow up on max's idea and recheck the level which is done in neutral and engine running. I distinctly remember a transmission place under filling checking a TR box in park which gave a false high reading The box went to neutral on a hard 3-2 shift at 80 and I had to take it back for at least 1.5litres to get it right. that was after I told them how to check the level correctly.

I can never get a clear reading on the auto dipsticks, pulling one out of the TJ and TL tells me if the fluid is still clear, but little about the level. Seems to splash up the stick no matter what I do. I had the same problem with the old Holden trimatic after a fluid change, but if I lost drive going around corners I knew it needed more ATF.
Pity you can't read it like the engine - off and cold.

yeah, with my recent gearbox endeavours, it's a pain and I must admit I guesstimated the qty of oil removed and did not check before a quick road test and under hard driving or high speed kickdowns it was going neutral inn the upshift. was 1.5-2 litres shy. I lost count of how many times I had to dip it to get some idea of the reading with new fluid

I thought I was the only one that found the AT dipstick difficult to read.
On the KS the dipstick tube makes an awkard bend that doesn't help to preserve readability.

Darren check your level if its good (check at operating temp in neutral flat ground) it can be hard to see, if your level is good then it will be the fluid, did it do this before the change if it DID NOT, you have used the wrong fluid, use only genuine mitsubishi fluid, if it was doing it before sorry cant help but im sure someone else can
have a look at the link
