Last time I had to get two new tyres for the front, the only guys I have found to be reliable locally informed me that the Pirelli P7 tyre that I have used for around ten years now, is no longer available and I need to find a replacement. But I have no idea what to go for.
The only tyres they had in my size (225 60 R16) are complete trash, I call them plastic because honestly in comparison they feel rather lacking in the grip compartment.
The most important thing, or thing that I valued about the P7 was the grip in both wet and dry, sure other tyres had lasted longer, but who cares about that when you are zipping around a corner whilst it's pissing down rain, with a big stupid grin on your face?

Anyways, I am looking for something to replace the P7.
Something grippy in both wet and dry, not hugely expensive and readily available, preferably something that won't get discontinued in the next few years. :roll:

Are you running 225/60R16 on your AWD on 16x6" wheels? Do you mean 215/60R16? You are way better off going 17" or 18" wheels. Mine was running on Hankook evo12 235/45R18 on 18x8" wheels and they handled nicely. Are you sure the P7 is no longer available? Bob Janes, Jax and tyresales still list them.

You can get Pirelli P7 Cinturato in 215/60/16 and 225/55/16.
I have them in the OEM size and they indeed are grippy.
Michelin PS3 is a good option

I run 225/60R16 on my stock 16" rims, switched up from the 215 a few years back quite like the added grip, no real problems other than putting on full lock when at rest.

I only know that Tyrepower in Toowoomba told me that the P7 is discontinued in favour of the PZero. Whether or not this is true I cannot say.

Becareful of the legallities of 225/60R16 tyres. The 215/60R16 tyres have the biggest overall diameter and yours is 12mm bigger again. Your speedo is probably under reading.

Michelin PS3s are a high end performance tyre. No idea about dirt roads but they will grip like shit in all other conditions - they will definitely cop a thrashing better than your current Pirellis. Make a trip to Gympie and I'll demo them on my 380 for you. Bit noisy on coarse bitumen though and being a performance tyre wear isn't crash hot.

The Michellin PS3 would be better in every way, except maybe longevity.

I found Pirelli P Zeros are quite good on the 16" wheel. Haven't tried them since moving to 18's though

I'm glad you said that, after verifying with my sat nav it is roughly 1.2 km/h off, as I like to drive at speed limit +5km/h that could cost me. Cheers!

I would take you up on that, except it appears that I have wasted everyone's time. After calling to find out about tyre prices, they tell me that the P7 Cinturano (or however you spell it) is available just not the original. So my sincerest apologies!

Have you considered the Bridgestone Potenza RE002 or the recently released RE003?

Have used them on my '04 TL for some years now. Somewhat soft and 40k tops on the front, but much better than the typical OEM taxi tyres these cars came with.

I hesitated going to only 17" due to the possibility of rim damage from potholes when I
found a full set of genuine TL VRX wheels at the local wrecker a few months ago for $250.

One of them already had a "flat spot" which could have been repaired - but I didn't take them.

My heart was saying yes, but my head(and my wallet - all 5 tyres were completely "shot") was saying no.

For me, 18's would be just too extreme.

Maybe when I was younger.

Instead, I just stayed with the stock 16", and got the Bridgestone RE003 Potenza.

I'm still very happy with them so far.

Bang for the buck at $117 each after cash back.
