Hi guys. All of a sudden my heater has stopped working. I removed the thermostat and checked it in a bowl of boiling water, and it didn't open. So I bought a new thermostat and it hasn't made any difference. The air is still cold. I might as well of flushed the $70 down the drain. Lol
I haven't noticed any leaks or wet areas under the dash or on the carpet. I have checked the fuses and there all good.
Any idea's what else it could be ?

Cheers

Checked the linkages behind the dash? The temp control moves a flap, if the cable gets disconnected you get no heat.

Thanks MADMAX, mines a series 2, so adjusting the temp is digital.
Having just had a closer look under the dash, I did find some signs of a leak. Some dry green residue, but not wet. Would this be a sign of the core leaking ?

In the passenger footwell you need to lift the carpet and the vinyl underneath it aswell, then check the underlay to see if its wet. If it is the heater core seals are gone.

The readout is digital, but the temperature is still regulated by a flap. It's worked by a little electric motor, if I remember correctly.

Yep, it will leak, but that is a different problem - the heater will still blast out hot air.
More likely to be a dud motor, stripped gears or disconnected electrical connection.

OP: Have a look in the manual how this is all supposed to work. Alternatively, take it to someone who has some knowledge of this.

Other members who have delved into the workings of the climate control, feel free to chime in.
I have a TL but never delved into the dash other than putting in a fresh radio and ashtray.

Yes, my mistake, you are right, I forgot that it would still be hot. When the engine is war, feel each of the heater hoses and make sure they are both warm/hot aswell.

There are motors that activate the flaps indeed.

This thread of mine will give you an idea of what the motors look like.

I cant remember which one activates the heater control flap though. The middle black box is where the heater core is, I think there might be a motor under it??

Thanks everyone. I will check out the motor, otherwise maybe a job for an auto electrician.

Cheers

Climate control unit itself could also be faulty.
