Kj Verada loud rattly grinding noise in drive and coasting in neutral. Noise completely went away and car drove fine good gear changes and quiet. Two days later noise back limped home and car now wont move in D R & N. Transmission is engaging D and R, free revs in neutral but car will not move, our drive way is quite steep and car will not roll in N either. It feels like it is all bound up which makes me think it is a diff problem what do you think? Any advice appreciated, car has 105ks.

Sounds like gearbox. 5 speed auto? noise in 1 2 and 3 ?

If the beast will not roll in N, it sounds like the differential. Did you try 1, 2 or 3 as well? Try rolling it in N (obviously with the handbrake ready) without the engine running. If it doesn't move then, it is almost certainly the diff.

Quite possibly planetary gearset failure, either way box will have to come out and be stripped down to find out, start looking for another box and I'd give consideration to getting the wave spring in whatever you get updated to the new design. i recently just replaced my f4A with a used box and decided to strip it to replace the internal filter and inspect the wave spring. Turned out it was already shattered but lucky all the pieces were still in there and had not passed through to the pump. Used the updated wave from my dead box . I got lucky, box has proven to be good for me.

have some shots of broken/dropped pins, broken teeth, metal fragments and where the pins were grinding in mine, hopefully I have this folder set right for public

People at MV Automatics (and Nova) in South Australia say that you have to weld/pin the planetarys and it's a fairly common mod, so much so they do it all on Magna boxes for recon - or so they both told me.

Doesn't really matter if the problem is with the differential or transmission, seeing it is stuffed.
If it is locked up in neutral, it will be the planetary gearset most likely.
Needs pulling out and reconditioning, or replacing with a S/H unit.

Thanks for the advice guys. Will probably go a reco tranny. The car is in immaculate condition was like new to drive. I had a TH sports from virtually new and clocked up 340000ks with no tranny problems, guess I was pushing my luck with another one.
