Hi all, my aircon stopped working a while back theres cold air but no fan, have had it in at my local Mitsi delaer anf they have quoted over $1000 apparently the resistor is faulty and needs replacing, I know theres a lot of labour hours to get to it but seems very expensive all the same, can anyone recommend any options in Adelaide area?

(Below assumes the layout is similar to the third gen Magna.)

If you put the fan control on maximum, the resistor block is totally bypassed.
If it doesn't work on that setting, it is probably the fan itself. Or the switch.
I replaced a fan in my TJ, need a 8 mm socket/spanner, remove the glovebox and you can get to it.
A VERY flexible back is an advantage.

No idea how hard it is to get to the resistor block though. Someone else can explain that.

Price quoted is way over the top, unless getting to the resistor block needs the dash to come out.

It sounds like the fan blower motor if the air conditioner switches on but there's no air flow from the fan at any speed. If so, you should be able to pick up a decent used fan blower motor on ebay etc for less than $100 and fit it yourself.

Can I assume the layout behind the dash is very similar to the 3rd gen Magna?
If so, removing and testing the fan motor is do-able as a DIY job.

EDIT: Don't run the aircon without a working fan. The evaporator can freeze up from condensed moisture, form a huge ice block and rupture it. I managed to do that on a Sigma.

It's a big job not exactly a DIY unless you are competent...there are workarounds with a hack saw, but a dealer would remove the dash and there's a fair bit of time involved in that

It took me a day the first time...horrible...horrible job.

Go to the wreckers and practice on one of theirs.

Access to the fan blower motor is similar to the 3rd gen, behind the glovebox and above the kick panel trim, but the resister I'm unsure.

Just throwing a curve ball. These are climate control A/Cs right? If so, it could simply be the air mix motor. I had it happen to my near new KW Verada and the motor was replaced under warranty.
