Upon solving my problems with the rocker cover oil leaks,i know the front cam bung seal near the water jacket is leaking, there's 2 bolts but the top one looks like it wont come out because the water jacket housing is in the way and also is the seal hard to get out/install.On my 2002 tj magna auto.I have checked other threads but cant find what i am looking for.

You have to unscrew the top bolt as far as it'll go, cut the head of it, unscrew the remainder and put a shorter bolt back in. I think it is an 8mm bolt. Another way of fixing it is to unscrew the bolts as far as they will go so you can move the cover back a bit, clean it with a rag and put some kind of sealant on the cover.

Would it not be better to do it properly and diassamble the cooling system first. Cutting a bolt insitu is easier? I'd take the opportunity if seals are that far gone to strip down the cooling pipe system, put fresh O-rings and gaskets, hell maybe a new thermostat too.

Original bolts are MF140024, 8X18 mm

Thats what I did when I replaced mine. Less hassle and at least you know its done properly

Yeah TW2005,I honestly didn't think of doing it that way,I suppose i can get the o rings from mitsi,is there a press you use or how do you push the new o ring in,thanks ammerty for comment.

So I've never done this on a 6G74 but a 6A12 V6 is a similar setup which I have and there was at least one bolt which was challenging to get to.

Image from the manual, so depends how far you want to go but at a minimum leaving the housings and thermostat alone this is what I think is needed. If you look closely there 4 O-rings, 2 flange gaskets. If you want to do the thermostat I know if you get a genuine one it will have a new seal with it, aftermarket I can't say.

No press needed, o-rings just slip on. Not sure what the professional method of installation is but with the oil seal , a smear of oil to lube it and assist install , and on the water ones i think I just used some liquid detergent and smeared just to help it in and helps prevent damaging them.

MN176208 O-RING,CYLINDER HEAD 01 43.7

MD147332 O-RING,COOLING WATER LINE 02 35.1
MD030763 O-RING,COOLING WATER LINE 02 D=15.9
MD194919 , ( new number MD319851) GASKET,THERMOSTAT CASE 02

MD350415 Thermostat kit, 88 eg C

These numbers are from the US diamante , I don't expect these to differ for our 6G74 magna. If you're not in a hurry it may be worth checking prices locally and offshore. There may be peanuts in it with shipping or it may save you some, sinking dollar has taken the shine off.. thermostat definitely cheaper offshore

I'm still not too familiar with the 6g74 yet.

Does anyone have a photograph of this particular part of the engine/parts that is being described in the above posts?

Easier to have a look yourself.
Open the bonnet and have a look. Front bank, passenger end of cylinder head.
(Lever to open the bonnet is located inside the car, right hand side, driver position, low down.)

Why are you insulting me?

Is this going to continue?

On the one hand, you say you know little about the engine, but you want someone to put up a picture rather than opening the bonnet and having a look yourself.
Just follow the top radiator hose back to the engine. Where it joins the engine, there is a thermostat housing, next to it is a blocking plate on the cylinder head. One of the bolts cannot be undone because it hits the housing.

yeah I am getting, the 4 main pipe o rings and the cam bung o ring, the guy at mitsi said with the cam bug seal replacement, people only normally only replace the o rings and of course the cam bung seal, its $70 bucks for the thermostat replacement,so I am getting the o rings tomorrow all for $52 bucks.

The water pipe just inserts into the pump from the back, no need to touch the pump. The pip is probably bolted somewhere to secure it. I only suggested doing both o-rings as a preventative but a new one on hand for the removal of the water housing is a good idea. An old seal may be doing the job until it gets disturbed and if old and hard may not seal up again. I'm sure there's links to download the service manual which would be handy for you to refer too. i can't give expert advice on the magna specific as I have not done mine yet but would be similar to my 6A12 V6 which I have done.

if you look at that exploded view, you can see a single bracket which bolts to secure the pipe. If you don't feel confident about it may be just leave the pipe secured and replace the o-ring at the end you're removing all the plumbing but I know what I'd do If i was in there.

yeah thanks TW2005,i just had a look, yep i will replace those 2 o rings,i see what you mean, once cleared thermostat housing and tubes once i undo the nut that pipe should come out, then i will put the new o rings on each end, with a bit of a water coating on them, thanks for your help, hopefully the cam seal wont leak when i put the new one in there, cheers.

I am about to replace the cam bung seal, but i was looking at a post on here about rattles in magnas, when i bought the car there was supposedly $1300 worth of work done like new plugs, oil, service, new timing belt/water pump, however ther is nothing about this in log book/service history,no receipts of work carried out,now what i am getting at is,i have a rattle on start up and high idle probably 1800rpm,whats happening here, could the tensioner on the timing belt be stuffed or i need a new timing belt tensioner water pump,so do i replace the timing belt and i know theirs a lot of technical work involved,i just dont want to wast having to redrain the radiator again,to fix the belt when the tensioner gets worse.should i just buy a new timing belt kit with new tensioner and water pump and do all the cam seals then, and also do the heads need to come of the do the cam & crank seals.
