just curious what you guys are paying for oil filters,

over the years i have been buying thru a local store but they have since shut shop., so when over to mits dealership looking for a filter

$ 28.00 and repco wasnt much better at 26.00 now i dont know if this is normal but i have only been paying 14.00 untill the parts store shut down

so yeah im shocked and a little horrified at the cost of filters this service, def not happy

mind you this is my first 3.5 litre but i always assumed they used the same engine as the 3 litre?

Both take Ryco Z456 oil filters, or equivalent.
The price of these has shot up recently, so I've stopped using them.
I get mine - Cooper brand - sent to me a six pack at a time from a shop in Sydney at much cheaper prices.
Google is your friend.

http://www.sydneyfilters.com.au/z456-oil-filter-wz456-mitsubishi-magna-verada/

$7 each.
I put one on my TL yesterday, all good so far. lol If it survives to the next oil change I will cut it open and see what the filtering material is like.

(Supercheap price on the Ryco z456 is currently $17.45)

I got this in early May:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MITSUBISHI-Magna-Verada-OIL-AIR-FUEL-Filter-Service-Kit-V6-6G72-3-0L-6G74-3-5L-/161494831645?hash=item2599d7921d

$29.90 for Oil/Air/Fuel filters & free postage.

Selling like hot cakes.

I find ACDelco AC028 filters sold through Holden do the job fine for my Magnas. ($6.25ea+post on ebay)
I also use Phoenix PO176 filters with no issues, sometimes found through Mitsubishi dealers, or may be able to be purchased directly from Phoenix
Both should be well under the prices you mentioned in your OP.

+1 for the Cooper oil filters

I've been using them for the last 30,000 in my KH with mineral oil, a few weeks ago I made the switch to HPR-10 and the same Cooper filter, it cost me $13.99 at Autobarn

They seem to do the job just fine, having said that I've never sliced one in half..

One good thing about the Cooper WZ456 is that the end of the filter is shaped correctly to take a cap type removal/install tool, whereas the Ryco Z456 (for Magna) or Z411 (for Lancer) look the same shape but the removal tool just won't fit. Need to use a strap type or claw type removal tool for those.
The cap type tool is a joy to use compared to the two others.

Looks like this, in case you are wondering.

Mine now has a big arrow and OFF drawn on in case of brain fade when I use it. lol

Denso, Bosch, Fram. 2-3 bucks.

I service so many of them I get them in bulk. :)

P.S. Not sure what the 3l vs 3.5l comment is about as they all use the same filter.

OK. I'll bite! Source of these cheap filters?

3L vs 3.5L comment was because the poster wasn't sure if they took the same filter. They do. So does the 3.8L.

Rockauto.com lists cheap filters, but shipping half a dozen to my front door adds $40.

Ryco Z456 was $17.95 at supercheap on Saturday, not to bad i guess

That price is just not on!
Not when you have 4 cars to look after, makes it worthwhile buying in bulk and searching for the best price.

The Cooper filters mentioned before are $7 each, shipping 6 of them is $12 to my home.
All up that is $54, or $9 each. But if you don't mind paying double, keep going to SuperCheap. Makes a lie out of the shop's name though.

Thanks, ill stick with the ryco. For the sake of a few $ every 4 or 5 months for one car....... and we all know the retail auto parts industry is legalised robbery.

Ryco and Coops are owned by the same mob these days, Have been for a few years.

Have you tried ringing your local dealer for a price on the Mits Value Parts equivilent ?. VS000416

Ryco I can do for $12 bucks each if anyone wants them, I can also do the complete filter kits for the same price as that ebay advert including postage as well, we have been using Sakura for many years and Sakura do also make filters for MANY OEM manufacturers

If anyone wants to get filters I am more than happy to supply them, if you want to buy 6 Ryco for example I will do them free post as well.

Yeah, so you only need to get 3-4 or so to make up the postage cost. I admit it's not for everyone but when you look after 7 of the damn cars it's worth it.

Or just contact Madmagna/Mal.

Wesfil.
Ryco and Wesfil are part of GUD Holdings Limited.

Sakura is an OK brand too. One filter model - need to look it up again - does just about all of the Mitsu models. Handy if you have different Mitsus and only want to have the one filter type on hand.

Mits Value Parts is worth checking out, ask for bulk discount, possibly?

All the different filter brands are made in cheap labour countries - Mexico, Indonesia, China.

I still struggle why people spend so much time and effort to save ....................... $5 bucks .......................... once or twice a year, and then to save this money on a part that is protecting their motor

Personally I still and always will while they are available, use Genuine filters. So what, they cost a few bucks more, then I have 1 less coffee that day and we have made up for it..

Time and effort? Going to SuperCheap 6 times and paying $17.95 six times is easier than ordering once on a website and paying by PayPal or credit card?

I find buying in bulk and having a six pack delivered to my front door by courier very convenient. More so than driving to SuperCheap and buying a single filter.

If it is cheaper that way as well, it is just a bonus.

So why not then get the filter when you get the oil or would that make sense

The issue I am saying here is that people complain about a filter being 5 bucks more for a better quality filter but are happy to tip 5 cups of coffee a day, is just something I can not work out

Yep, perfect sense. Except I buy oil when the price is right, like 4 jugs at a time.
I never buy coffee when I go out, no idea what they cost, sorry.

(I'm a poor old age pensioner trying to keep a family fleet of 4 Mitsus on the road. So I look for cheap shortcuts. I bet it shows! lol)

single dad of 4, i have to scrimp where i can..

that being said id never use a filter that was utter rubbish on the car, i was merly wondering what people where using and paying compared to what the dealer here was rorting me for.

Madmagna
17-09-2015, 06:02 PM
Dealer is not rorting anyone. The genuine ones are made in Japan and it is MMAL who dictate to the dealers the cost these are to be charged out at.

Understand you dont have much money, perhaps we can do a few Sakura ones for a good price for you

I buy ryco from my local independant shop and pay 12 bucks. I find Supercheap and Repco fairly dear on everything including windscreen wipers.
