Hi all,

Can someone point me to a guide on how to flush / service the tranny in a TR Magna V6?

good to see you back posting..tbergman its been a while

if its high km on the box ...a flush may cause more problems .. than you wish for

whats the problem with the auto and current colour of the oil

here is the gentle flush write up by ts370000 and discussion of same by other members ..a good read

With reference to the flush vs "gentle flush'

What i don't understand is the fluid circulates like this anyway through normal operation. So where's the risk with flushing using the pump ? I've only done a couple of flushes now and I can't say it's high pressure on those cooling lines.

or is the debate in relation to specialised flushing machines used in workshops?

What initially concerned me was reading about machine flushing old transmissions that have not been regularly flushed. Apparently the machine flushing can loosen deposits without dissolving them and they go on to damage the transmission. There are reports that such a flush will lead to a failure within a year.

I also, wherever I can, try to work out ways that I can do as much as possible myself with a minimum of resources.

My idea was to let the transmission continue to work as it normally does while gradually replacing all old fluid with new, hoping that that does not dislodge anything.

So far the transmission works well, now at 400 000 k's.

Have to say 400 000k , original transmission, that's a top effort.

:) afa overall caring for the transmission it's in fact a minimal effort on my part.

The last time it was machine flushed was at 180 000 k's and since then I neglected it with just changing the fluid at long irregular intervals.

I became concerned when smelling the fluid shortly after taking a heavy load to the tip and the car starting to drive sluggishly. When draining it I found the fluid was black with a burnt/acrid smell. It came good after doing what I describe in the topic. So far it looks like I've rescued it while saving money and learning stuff.

the gentle flush technique worked a treat for me and I continue to drop 5lt out every 10k and refill with no problems in my 380 I also used this process for 267k in my TJ magna which now lives next door and going strong at 346k
