hey all,
so when i unlock the car i have only a couple seconds to open a door before the lock cycle back to locked,
the wagon door does it to, most annoying
never used to do it, only started when the battery was dced by mechanic to change the starter
any ideas?

So you have 2 cars doing this?
It's more like half a second!
There is a switch inside the driver's door that is not making contact properly.
(Nothing to do with disconnecting the battery by the mechanic.)

Nope, the auto relock is more than a couple of seconds, its half a minute before relocking,
I suspect you have either a dodgy connection at the drivers lock motor or the drivers lock motor is dying.
If the connection fails, it automatically locks itself.
Test this by using the key in the drivers door to see if it is different and/or being in the car and unlocking it remotely, if the drivers door lock button doesn't move or the motor sounds bad, change it.
Otherwise the BEM has shorted something and will need to change (this has been known to happen)

If only life was that simple. lol
The switch is inside the white plastic block attached to the door locking mechanism.
It needs to be removed from the car and opened up.
The switch itself is just a piece of bent copper sliding on a copper track. Lots of grease on it.
I fixed mine by simply bending the copper wiper part to that it contacts the fixed copper with more force.
. . . . on the other hand, it may not be the switch, but the rods inside the door needing adjusting. Perhaps open the door up and manipulate the rods to see if you can induce or reduce the problem? The rods have kinks in them so you can increase the kink if you want to shorten a rod, or lessen the kink a bit if you want to lengthen the rod.
Experiment, and good luck!
