Hi,
After recently returning from an o/seas trip and picking up my car (2000 TJ Magna Advance) from a long term airport parking company, I found the Mitsubishi car radio needed to have the security code re-entered (car battery must have gone flat while I was overseas). I entered the correct code and it appeared to accept it ok but then the radio display started continuously jumping between Radio mode and Aux mode. I have disconnect the battery a couple of times and re-entered the code several times but it still keeps flashing from Radio to Aux and back again. While this is happening none of the push buttons will work either, there is no response at all from any buttons or knobs. If I plug earphones into the auxillary jack the display remains on Aux. Then when I remove the headphone jack the display jumps to Radio (FM1) and the radio comes on, but only for a few seconds. Then it start jumping back and forward between the two again.

Has anyone got an idea how I can fix this weird problem, please?

redx.

"replace the radio"

Well, I considered that option but would prefer to replace the car rather than spend money on it! It's been the most reliable car I ever owned but is getting a bit long in the tooth now and it's time to think of trading her in on a new model. Not quite ready to do that though so I'd just like to sort out the problem with the original radio.

Cheers.

Feel free to pull out the radio and have a look at its innards.

RedX. Being that you have effectively reset the radio by killing and then reconnecting the power and the problem persists then it's obviously a fault internal to the radio. To pull it out and open it up and have a tech run through the chassis to find the dud component will cost you a leg, arm and leg! Honestly, piss the radio off and buy a replacement. If you go on Ebay you will find a single DIN stereo with USB and bluetooth for less than a hundred bucks and being that the install is simply a matter of matching the plug wiring and slipping the new single DIN unit in it won't cost you an arm and a leg. I reckon you'll get away with doing the installation and the cost of the new unit and still have some change from $200. Good luck.
