Help. Just drove my TL (LPG) into a servo. As I did, the engine stopped, and will not restart. It will turn over, but will not fire.

It has fuel, as I had to push it to the pump to make certain.

I have recently (week ago) replaced the battery and ISC motor due to idle issues - fixed.

First thought was the timing belt, but I can view the cams rotating via the oil filler hole as the engine is cranked.

Any ideas at all as to where to start? Could a faulty ignition key cause this? (by immobilising the engine).

Thanks flyboy, but it's not stalling. It just stopped dead and now won't even fire on turning the key.

Could still be an immobiliser problem, if it wasn't getting fuel it should have coughed and spluttered for a while first. Sudden stoppage seems strange.
What made you think timing belt? Was there a noise that made you think that?

No there was no noise - it was the sudden stop which surprised me. Thats what made me think of something drastic like the timing belt.

I dont really understand the key/immobilser system - if the battery on the key is flat or the internals of it defective, will it stop the car?

The remote opens and shuts the doors.

The actual key has a transponder chip in it which communicates with an antenna just around the ignition hole. If you try and start the car with a blank key, it won't start because the immobiliser will cut the injector pulse.

Unplug the BEM as described in the link on the other post, and then reconnect it.

If that doesn't work, remove the key surround and remove/reconnect the antenna wire as shown on the link and try again.

If that doesn't work, pull a spark plug to see if it's wet.

Make sure you disconnect the battery while unplugging and replugging wires to prevent any fuse or CEL issues.

RACQ guy says I have spark and gas up to the engine - then legged it. Now awaiting LPG 'specialist'.

Had my car quit when the crank angle sensor died - the engine just shut down while I was driving - not sure how to test it - the plug is easy to get to o the driver side of the engine.

Thanks chaps. Gas expert diagnosed it as the diaphragm failed in the gas converter (liquid to gas) - He actually started the engine by spraying starter spray into the air intake, the engine started and ran, temporarily.

(I think) there's a test button on the converter body to test for gaseous output - obviously on mine it didn't show as such.

For your future information.

Addendum to that: It turned out to be a water leak within the LPG converter - total cost with callout $550. It seems the converter uses engine coolant in the conversion process. You cannot foresee such things! :kb:

My converter was leaking and it was clear from a large green stain on it, so I had the whole thing replaced. It's good to know what happens if it's left to leak.
