The cable in question

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Misubishi-MZ360135ex-Galant-Eclipse-Endeavor-Aux-Cable-/391179277707

This is my first car (don't even have my provisional license yet...) so I don't have a clue...

Is there a better way to install an AUX cable?

I am not overly keen on replacing the head unit.

I don't have an ES but I don't know how that wiring would go on the back of my GT's headunit. Mine had a circle-ish plug for my iPod adapter, if I recalled correctly.

If you have an ES it would be a piece of cake to replace the factory headunit with an aftermarket double DIN. Only issue is you'd lose the steering wheel controls (unless you install an interface to match the two). On VR-X, GT etc it's a bit harder because you need to buy the ES fascia/mount and you get a comm error on the MFD.

Yeah it seems to be that the only option is to install a new head unit. The interior looks so nice as it is, it feels like a crime to ruin it with an ugly head unit. Is there no other way to install an AUX cable?

Just to clarify, if I was going to install a head unit I would need one of these (http://aerpro.com/997012) (facia) to fit the new head unit and then this (http://aerpro.com/app0111) (cable harness) which would connect to the OEM cables and then the new head unit would connect to the black and brown cables? And then if I wanted to use my steering wheel controls I would need this (http://aerpro.com/aswc1) (ASWC) im guessing.

I did mine with ISO cables you need 2 sets 1 for the 380 harness and 1 for the new unit with mine I had to swap the illumination wire around
highly recommend getting the workshop manual off ebay for 10 bucks wiring diagrams take the guess work out
I bought all the Aeropro gear from ebay you can get the fascia and 380 plug set for 85 bucks

When you say 2 sets, is that 2 sets of the same cable above (this (http://aerpro.com/app0111) one) or did one come with the head unit?

Just had a look at your car as well, looks great. What head unit are you using?

Cheers

Head unit is a pioneer Avic F20BT GPS Bluetooth streaming and handsfree not a cheap unit but very happy with it
I bought 1 set of ISO cables to suit my headunit then 1 set to suit the 380 then you just plug them together
The one that came with the headunit I just put in the draw
I'm pretty sure from memory the one that suits the 380 harness is female and the other is male
Hope this all makes sense

Yeah I know what you're saying. I have the OEM iPod adapter but it's very limited in its capability. I'm debating an aftermarket headunit but it's a bit more effort for me in a GT.

If you go for a double DIN touchscreen it won't look quite as out of home as a cheapo non-touchscreen. Have seen some reasonably equipped Kenwood and Pioneer units at JB Hifi/Autobarn for around $400 which is probably the way to go.

Jeez that isn't cheap! $3000

There is one on there for $2000 that looks great but infinitely out of my price range.

It does make sort of sense. Will have to look into it more after the HSC finishes and after I pass my driving test.

Was it difficult to swap the illumination wire around?

Cheers! I've only driven it twice but it feels really good, really happy with it as my first car. Going in for a service tomorrow hopefully not too many issues with it.

Once I put the head unit and fix the paint up that is scratched definitely post some pics up!

Swapping the pins was easy just use a fine pointed tool or very small jewelers flat blade there is a little tab inside the connector that releases the pin easy as that
Definitely recommend getting the workshop manual if not when comes time I'll post up the wiring diagrams

Sweet sounds pretty easy, if not i'm sure my dad should be able to help me.

Will definitely purchase it, cheers for leading me onto it

Found the workshop manual on another thread here, looks great!

Quick question, my car currently looks like this:

Warning: this image is large

It looks remarkably like double din would fit it... When I measured it, it measures pretty much to 180xmm100mm.

Do I still need the facia face plate or will a head unit just fit right in there?

Cheers! Can't wait to pass my test and go for a long drive

Sorry! Is there a way to resize it with bbcode?

Edit: nvm

You will not need the face plate. A double din unit will slide straight in.
