Hey guys as the tittle states I am just after a rough estimate/or what you guys think my VRX would be worth. Few details and things to get an idea. Main reason I'm looking at getting rid of it, is because I now have a new work car

2000 VRX auto
Red
Just clicked on 290,000 ( know it's on high side )
Runs great
Rego
Few bumps and scrapes
Interior is decent for age
Always serviced on time

... I can't think of anything else really.
So yeah, just open to people's opinions on what it's worth. I know I can't expect much but I don't want to put it up for say $4500 and it be no where near that.

Cheers :D

I think having 290,000km and being on the verge of being on a major service is going to make it quite hard to sell. Just keep it as a weekend car and run it into the ground :p

Put it in storage until you are no longer with the works car.
(Yes, it happens . . . lose the job and lose the car - double head f'k.)

well known fact magnas don't hold their value or even the 380. just have a look what you can get for the $$. I reckon my wagon i'd be pressed to get $5000 at 10 years and 170+ k. Agreed value $6900 but I see plenty of sedans sub $4000 (2004/05 models) . maybe a VRX will attract a small premium.

Most 05' TW ES's go for $3,000 over here. At that price point they have just below 200,000kms

That could be a guide

A car is only worth what someone else is prepared to pay for it, so check your local car ads.

I'd be keeping it, as insurance against losing the works car, but then I'm a car hoarder. lol

$2000 ono

This is about the upper max I would pay for it assuming it ran really well, but I would be more comfortable paying around $1,500 for it

Comfortable @ $1,500? With all the things a 15 year old car would need doing to it at 290,000 km, to get it back to a good condition?

OP could advertise it locally at $4K, but he will get lots of lowballers, and he will decide to keep it, I'm guessing.

290k is the killer. Id say somewhere between 1200-1800$
Best bet is to put a good photo up and leave the k's off. Get someone emotionally invested before they know the ks and you might get low 2's. In my experience people will only pay what they think they could sell it for, unless they see the 18in mags and get the goggles on ... if that makes any sense.

Yours would be the exception, not the rule.
A TJ with 204k on the east coast would barely fetch half that.

OP, put $2000 on it if it has rego and RWC.. $1200-1500 if it doesn't, as a starting point for negotiation.
Be prepared to accept less either way, third gens are worth diddly once they reach 250,000km+ and a bit of age behind them especially if they're in average condition.. regardless of the badge.

Thanks for the opinions and input guys. I'll be advertising it in the next few days. I see no point in to holding onto it and paying rego and insurance for it when I now have a work car and a TW wagon which I use for transport of musical items.

Hold onto it and use it as a Trade-In on something else

Your best bet is to peruse the ads on Carsales. Personally, I reckon if you get three grand for it then you'd be lucky. I'd take all the premium audio out of the thing (because premium audio counts for nothing when a car is being valued as a trade-in) and fit a cheapy head unit and speakers or the originals, if you still have them. At least you are reclaiming the money spent there.

I was going to sell my TJ Solara which has 37, 800 K on the odometer (yep...that's right, 37K) and was offered 3 grand as a trade in, simply because it is still in show room condition. Otherwise the offer would have been 2 grand. So, like others here have suggested, I keep it as a "weekend/visiting" car now. To me the car is worth more than 3 grand as I still love the way it drives.

In a few years time I can put the thing on collector's plates.

A dealer in Adelaide would be lucky to give you $1000 for most Magnas on trades, especially high kms, I'd highly suggest against trading it.

My mum just traded her 99 camry with 178k and full history for 1k. Yours with those kays is worthless, take the sound and wheels off and sell them separately, youll potentially double your return.
