For a while now the oil warning light has been staying on when I start the car, it only turned off after the engine revved to 2000 rpm or higher.
About two weeks ago we noticed that the engine was noisy so we changed oil and filter, we changed it to castrol magnatec (never had problems with it in my first verada) and now the engine is much quieter and runs a bit smoother (about 3-5% I would guess) however now I need to rev it above 3000rpm for the light to turn off.
The very first time it started the oil light didn't stay on, I can't recall if it even came on in the first place. But ever since the first time it has always stayed on until the engine revs above 3000 rpm. It has previously always had whatever oil Mitsubishi run in it.
I am considering doing another oil change and using Penrite HPR10 10w50 but wanted to ask here fearing it may be something else, and not wanting to waste money so shortly after doing an oil change.

I wouldn't be overly concerned about the $50 or so that an oil change costs DIY.

You might need to allow for a much bigger cost as your problem - from long distance - sounds terminal in the not too distant future.

It would be useful to get a mechanic to do an oil pressure test if you don't know anyone who can lend you an oil pressure gague.

The test itself will be quick and inexpensive.

What comes after is where the expense will be.

Oil pressure light usually goes off while you are still cranking over to start.
Either you have a dud oil pressure sender, or a totally stuffed engine.
My bet is the first option, seen it before.
Either way, an oil change won't fix it

Easy to test switch.....replace with another....simple things first

Dont drive the car, dont use Magnatec either for that matter in a Magna

You need to stop making expensive guesses and hook up an oil pressure gauge and see what is actually happening

We have just done a 380 with similar issues, pressure relief valve in the oil pump was faulty.

You can change oils until the cows come home, will not fix the issue. Find the issue and fix it before you end up replacing the whole engine.

If an oil pressure test gauge or a pressure switch change doesn't fix the oil light problem, the engine has to come out for a dismantle.

As above, oil pressure relief valve may be stuck open.

A member years ago reported a loss of oil pressure, turned out he had hit the sump and the dent blocked the oil pickup. May also be an air leak at the oil pickup to block joint, or the pickup screen itself is blocked.

If the oil pressure is really that low, and you have been driving it like that for a while, by rights the engine should be a rattly mess about to grenade itself.

Start with checking the actual oil pressure, or just replacing the oil pressure switch.

Engine does not have to come out......

Find the issue first, could be the pump, this can be fixed in car and there may not be any engine damage either if caught soon enogh

Did an oil pump on a 380 just last week, same thing, oil light coming on at idle and low revs, spring in pressure relief valve faulty.
