So my TJ Magna (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=106171) is in need of some love. It's been too long since it had a decent service.

I'm planning to do the 195k Service, and had a few questions.
I'll probably end up taking it in for the service, so any shop recommendations in Perth would be great!

According to this thread (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103376&highlight=major+service) I need to do the following:

Standard Service
-Oil + Filter change
-Fuel + Air Filter

Major Service
-Timing Belt Replacement
-Front and Rear Plugs (Already done a month ago)
-Rocker Gaskets (Already done a month ago)

Preventative Measures
-Belt Tensioner
-Water Pump
-Cam Seals
-Heater Core Seals
-Injector Clean
- The following Fluids flushed:
--Transmission Fluid
--Radiator + Coolant
--Brake Fluid
--Power Steering
--Clutch Fluid

So my questions are.
Is there anything else that should be done for preventative maintenance?
Is there anything specific to Magnas that I should get done?
Is there anything obvious I have missed?
What are the recommended fluids for a TJ Magna?

Sorry for so many questions, but this car deserves the best service, so I want to make sure I don't leave anything out!

When you get the timing belt replaced make sure you get the kit which includes the tensioner.

How about a wheel alignment if that hasn't been done for a while or your tyres are wearing unevenly.

Regarding your 'preventative measures', unless you're flush with cash, I reckon:
-Water Pump - get done while the timing belt is done
-Cam Seals - as above
-Heater Core Seals - I'm not sure what these are, but I wouldn't bother unless there are issues.
-Injector Clean - I wouldn't bother with this one unless there are issues.
-Fluid flush - which fluid is this?
--Transmission Fluid - only if hasn't been done for a while
--Radiator + Coolant - every 2 years
--Brake Fluid - every 2 years
--Power Steering - I wouldn't bother with this one unless there are issues.
--Clutch Fluid - is yours an auto? if so it shouldn't have this.

Why would you not bother with an injector clean "unless there are issues" that is mad. They should be done every 100k ideally but often are never done

Heater seals, only if they are leaking

If getting a timing belt kit, get one which has the NTN tensioner which is what is used by Mitsubishi, others have too many issues

Radiator again only if it has issues, often they do start to go brittle in the tanks and can start to show signs of cracking

Water pump every 200k, we rarely change one at 100k

Brake and Clutch fluid should be every 24 months, if not sure when was done does not hurt to do it again, also the most neglected area is the power steering fluid

Sounds like you've got plenty of cash to be considering all that at once!
Why not go a 6g75 conversion while you're at it and put the 1k from the belt towards it? :)

I'd prioritise cooling system this time of year. Do you know when timing belt was done? Mine didn't have it done until 140k so I had a bit of flexibility with the second change.
Also shockers can make a big difference to your driving experience, they may be getting sloppy at that age.

I forgot to add the Belt Tensioner, it was mentioned in the other thread too!!
I also saw it mentioned that the Magna's tend to be slightly allergic to the wrong fluids, as in using non OEM oil and Transmission fluid. Is this really much of a problem, or is it not terribly important?
I obviously put new Transmission fluid in when I did the clutch plate, but I can't say for certain which brand, only that it wasn't a Mitsubishi one.

@MadMagna
The radiator has had a small crack in it at some point in the time I didn't have the car. It has been repaired and I have had no issues with the temperature, however the fluid smells quite unpleasant, like bad eggs... so I wouldn't mind not getting a faceful of that everytime I check the fluid.
I also have no heater at the moment so I was going to flush the heater core to see if that fixes it. But right now I have half the dash out amyway, so figured Icould do the seal before it is a problem.

@TL Wagon
The car is a manual! I remember crying over the clutch plate!
As for the fluid, that was supposed to be a header for the fluids below it. I will reformat my post when I can get on a computer instead my irritating phone...
It's definately been more than Two years since any of the fluids were properly done!

@Magmad
Not much cash right now sadly, but am looking at selling my Legnum, once it is fixed...
As for a 6g75, I have heard they are more difficult to get Forced Induction working with the engine due to CELs and such. As I want to Turbo or Twin Charge eventually, I was thinking of staying with the 6g74
I doubt the timing has ever been done, and as for shocks, looking on these forums, there seems to be a consensus that the Sachs are quite good when paired with Dobingers???
I may go that route eventually if I can't get some Coilovers. (Second hand unfortunately )

There are a few members getting close to 250kw out of their 6g75s with cams. You may end up spending more on the forced induction set up for less power, reliability and economy. Sounds like you're a fair way from making that decision, but might be worth throwing a NA 75 build in the mix.
I haven't tried the Sachs /Dobingers set up, but a cheaper alternative might be king springs + KYBs which have been great for me (once I figured out my rear bushes were shagged).
195k without a timing belt? wow

I bought the car with over 130k on it already, and the engine was a replacement as the original car had spent near 2 years at a dealer before they scraped it. The guy I got it from, bought it from the scrap yard, and got a motor put in as the scrap guys had taken the original out. I would guess the timing belt was done when they put the engine in, but I have no idea what the km's were at that time, and I know it hasn't been done since I bought it. (I think the Kms are only about 185 at the moment, although I haven't driven the car in a while.)

I will also try to get as much of this done on my own as possible, but I don't have a timing light, nor have I ever changed a timing belt, so I may get that done by a shop. I will probably get the Water Pump done then as well as all the Cam seals and, if I've got cash, the Injector clean.
The fluids I can do myself along with the filters and Heater Core, and I've already replaced all the plugs and Rocker Gaskets, so I'm hoping the cost won't be too high...

There is no way people are getting 250kw with just cams, I think their hands are on the wrong cams to be honest

We have a customer with a 6G75 who got 273kw ATW with a super charged 6G75

When you fit the 75, you use existing Magna systems so no you will no have issues with CEL etc BUT when you use forced induction you really need to go stand alone ECU anyway so there is no issue there anyway

Brake and Clutch fluid should be every 24 months, if not sure when was done does not hurt to do it again, also the most neglected area is the power steering fluid

Does this mean the power steering fluid should be changed (how often?) or just that the level should be checked (which is all my service book shows)?

+1 on the tensioner, on my TH I didn't get it done with the belt and after it still sounded rattly, did it later and it sounded like a new car. Bought my TJ wagon and got the dealer to do the belt and forgot, and declined having the tensioner done, so this one is rattly too.

Most we do without the tensioner do not get rattly because we do it properly and do not allow the piston to extend in the first place

I haven't tried the Sachs /Dobininger set up, but a cheaper alternative might be king springs + KYBs which have been great for me (once I figured out my rear bushes were shagged).

I'd previously had the Kings/KYB combo on mine and frankly, wasn't that impressed once the setup had settled and for near enough the same money you can get the Sachs/Dobinsons combo anyway.

I've got the Dobinsons on mine now & they are much better - Firmer, more responsive rebound, better handling with little compromise to ride. I still have the KYBs for now, but will be replacing them with the better performing Sachs shocks next year.

Lovells springs also makes an excellent spring for the magna (I think theirs is slightly lower & firmer than the Dobinsons equivalent)
