G'day blokes, been away a while, dunno if this post is worthwhile, but thought I'd put it it up, it might be of value to someone.
My TS 3 ltr was virtually undriveable in the wet. Slipped and slid all over the shop. It needed new front tyres.
I went to the local mob seeking recaps (as it's only a second car).
They suggested Membat tyres, brand new, $78 each.
I had them fitted to the front, later in the wet I flogged them at around-a-bout ....no sliP!
I'm very impressed. Dunno about wear yet, but value for money, they seem ok
Just thunk someone might be interested to know.
Any comments would be welcome to us all.

Terry

Yep. Some tire compounds go rock hard with age and lose all grip.
Anything is better really.
Some weird and wonderful brand names appearing and disappearing, keep an eye on wear patterns on these. Not saying they are bad, but be safe.

site has an english translation you can select

http://www.membat-tire.com/en/nosotros-2/

Edit 1 added information
from Old blokes added tyre wall information
The moulds are Spanish made, the tread pattern is Continental (USA), but the actual tyres are made in China.
It says so on the tyre!

http://www.alibaba.com/trade/search?fsb=y&IndexArea=company_en&CatId=&SearchText=chinas+tyre+manufacturers+list

there are 127 possible china tyre factories ....the Membat tyre may have come from
I will post again if I find the exact factory out of china ..
the company guessed will need . to have
a listed passenger car tyre size 14 or 15 and an Oceania sales %

Edit two .... added information

I have contacted Membat head office Barcelona to ask which china factory makes the tyres
waiting on a reply

Barcelona, Spain? Made from left over olive oil and olive skins then?
Do a burnout and smell the air, and tell me if I'm right! lol

More likely to be made from rice husks or old dim sims!

Yeah mate, I thank you for your comments about safety,
I definitely would not put them on my Falcon, but the Magna, being the second car, doesn't get used for long trips.
Like I said, how they'll wear is unknown but they handle ok and don't squeal under acceleration or hard cornering.
Having said that, I don't normally drive like that, just been pushing them to see how they respond.
If only it was rear wheel drive ... sigh ... cannot get the thing to hang the rear out!

Just a quick add on to my thread, Mad max, pls read.
Coming back from the busy town of Cessnock? this arvo, I get to a round-about, slow down, look right, left as you do, nobody about, so off I go.
Bugger me, a f***n P-plater on my left decides she can get thru before me. She can't. I stood the Magna on it's nose. Missed her, but the point of this post is ....
the Magna stopped! No squeal, no skid, it just stopped.
I'm quite impressed with the Chink tyres. Having said that, quite pleased that I had replaced the front pads when I got this beast!
Regards,
terry
