The KM177-6 (also known as F4A23)is a four-speed electronic automatic transaxle built by Mitsubishi and was used in all TP models and carburetor Second Generation models.
in 2013 Aquar found this gem for the km177 tranny 120 pages pfd ..the kick down band adjustment is page 43

it is normal for a first gen auto to lurch into first at the lights as you slow down
clunks are not normal
tranny oil thinning or clogged filter = a service may lessen the clunk
could be diff back lash
worn CV joints
saggy /broken front and rear mounts
that little shock out of gas (now only found as a second gen V6 auto shock near its rear mount )
worn kickdown band (internal )
or faulty kick down solenoid
Check the single wire going into the solenoid on the front of the Auto
it frays/cracks because of the heat and movement over the years
the solenoid is part of the round cap held in with a large circlip
you take the circlip and plate off to do the adjustment
