Hi everyone, thank goodness i just had dropped the kids of to school when on the way home the accelerator pedal seemed to stay down on the floor! I had a quick look at the return springs at the end of the cable under the bonnet and there seems to be three springs? Two together real strong and one that is actually quite loose and not very tightly wound. Does that sound right? Or should i be looking closer to the pedal? Thanks in Advance.

I doubt it would be the spring. You may find its more likely the accelerator cable binding somewhere in its length of plastic sheathing. Maybe check the condition of the cable first before messing with the springs.

If the throttle pedal is down to the floor but the engine is idling ok and not revving its guts out, more likely the cable is broken, or come undone at the throttle pedal, or the cable adjustment (10 mm bolt on plenum) has come loose.

When i realised it was to the floor i dropped it into neutral and she was roaring bad! I pulled over checked the throttle cable engine side to see if it was stuck but it was ok, springing back no problem, so i will have a look at the floor.

WORKED IT OUT! Thanks to those who replied, i played with the pedal and yes it was getting caught but the sound was coming from the engine side. After playing with the cable and looking for the clicking noise, i discovered that one of the two tight wound springs was actually just clipping an air intake clip right next to it enough to hold it open. Why this has just started when no mechanical work has been done is beyond me, but thats what it is. Not sure how to add an image :/
