For the past week or so I have had this flashing letter or number annoying me in my TL Magna. Any clues as to what it means? I do not have a workshop or owners manual to work it out myself. :-))

This is the transmission trying to warn you of a failure or issue.

I'm not sure of what exactly your transmission is trying to tell you - but you can find the codes in the workshop manual.

I think it has something to do with the trip computer settings.

There is some information here:

TJ battery disconnect reset display?

I have put in a new battery after the car was parked for 24 hours without a battery. Now the electronic LED displays are not working. One of them is flashing what looks like a '5' or 'S'.
Do have to reset something?
Nothing in operators manual.

Tj Magna exec.

S stands for sedan, if that's your body shape hold down the trip computer mode button (left of the steering wheel) until the display changes, otherwise click the button to change to 'W' (wagon) and hold the button. The second screen shows 3.0 or 3.5, select your engine capacity as previously (click to change, hold to select).

Trip meter needs resetting every time you disconnect the battery.

It can also do this is your battery is near dead and the voltage drops too far when you try to crank the engine.

If neither of the above are possibilities, check the two fuses in the yellow square in the under bonnet fuse box.

Yeah S for sedan and w for wagon.
You need to select the the letter that corresponds to your vehicle type.
Presumably it affects the trip computer calculation formulae.

It would because the tanks are different sizes. 68L for the wagon vs 71L for the sedan
